Took a young guy that would like to start hunting and his dad out last weekend to look for a blackie. We went out Saturday afternoon and camped out that night. It was nice to be out and spend some time around the campfire talking and making some good food to eat :-D The boys did a little trout fishing and hooked a few cutthroats during the midday when we took a break from bears. For some reason we were not seeing a lot of bears right away but things picked up the next afternoon took this bear on Sunday afternoon. Some of the spots we hike in to weren't producing any animals so we drove a road I hadn't hunted bears on the last few years, there are always lots of bears in there and it didn't dissapoint this time either. We came up over a rise and there was a nice little cinnamon bear we watched it for a bit to make sure there were no cubs but it eventually went into the bush I tried to go after it but the bush was too thick and couldn't see the bear. As I got out of the bush a guy passed us and was ahead of us the next 20 K so we turned around hoping the bear would be out again. On the way back we saw a very nice bear on the road quite a bit bigger than the one I shot but he bailed into the thick bush real fast like big bears usually do. About 1 K from where the cinnamon bear was we came around the corner and this guy was just walking off the road but he stopped just inside the bush and sat down like a dog. I used my new KING (aka 375 Ruger) and shot him with an old version 250 gr Barnes X bullet in the upper chest as he faced me and he went down. He tried to get up again so I gave him a 260 gr Accubond through both shoulders which settled him down quickly. He measured 6'1" nose to tail and 6'9" across the front claws I think he was a young bear that would have been real big one day. We needed some meat so now have an ample supply in the freezer. We saved a few roasts but ground most of it up. Ate some twice this week and it tasted very good :)

If anyone in the Terrace area wants to go for the big bear we saw pm me and I can give you some info on where we saw him.

Any legal rubbed bear(s) during the last two weeks of June are going to be in trouble!

Nice work Gerry on taking out a young fellow and showing him the ropes.

Way to go Gerry! Way to switch it up with the bullets...keeps the bear guessing! ;)
I haven't even bought a license yet this year...that's gotta change...gotta do some more range time with the new gun before I feel good about squeezing the trigger on an animal.
