I swear there was a post on here about this but i can't find it. So are there any stories or pics of success of the illusive PG elk?

Yes, last summer/fall I started one on PG elk. I've found many tracks and eyes on one last fall. This winter there was a herd hanging out on the ice by the highway at the creek just south of the Salmon River. Word is, PG elk are with in a couple of kms of the significant rivers around here. That's where I found tracks, although the brush is also thick and loud and visibility very low. A low tech, large time investment is probably the most likely chance of success. Then there is the pack out.... My dad would call this type of hunt "character building". I'll be at it again this fall.

See them hanging around the highway near Wansa Creek in the Winter.

There are elk pretty much everywhere around PG now, but as they are herd animals, they are very 'pockety'. Comes down to being in the right place at the right time. One area can be hot one day and no elk within 10km's the next...the move around a lot.

That sums it up really well.

I am fairly new to PG and have been trying to figure out the elk as well. I have an area picked out and need to do more scouting. I hate the country in this PG area though. Thick is an understatement. I was going to sell my 444 but I think it will see more use. Good luck in finding your elk.
