So with nice weather and my cousin coming to visit for the weekend (an avid hunter)we decided to grab a couple bear tags and do some exploring we headed up a forest service road between hope and lyton and started climbing it didnt take to long before we hit snow so we headed back down and found some lower roads to travel .

after about 2 hours of driving we saw our first bear a nice blacky with a fat rump running like the wind straight into thick steep bush.we attempted the up hill climb but gave up after the first 200 yards with no sign of the bear.

We drove a few more hours exploring a couple nice mountains and valleys seeing lots of scat on the road wich became our running joke (they'll have to come out on the road sooner or later to take a poop).Hiked a few washed out roads then relutantly decided to

Then we got our chance a nice looking brown took off up a hill we stopped the truck and walk closer then we spotted it looking at us over a bench his head and shoulders showing so I took a knee aaimed for his chest boom.It looked like he dropped so we waited a bit than headed up the hill straight up 60 yards all we found was a fresh pile of poop right were he was si tting no blood no hair no tracks as it was shale we studied the area then my cousin raises his gun and shoots I turn to see the bear roll out of the bush not 20 feet from us.

iT was a beaty bear nice soft fluffy brown hair not a flaw exept for it was missing half its front right leg. It shrunk imediatly but were still stoked on a successful hunt. me a little flustered by the miss .

later set up a target and shot both guns my 30-06 his 270 mag we both got 3 inch groups with mine and 1 inch groups with his at 100 yards.I was shooting old hand me down bullets could this be the problem.

we also came across some large prints that my cousin said must be elk. is their elk or moosehttp://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/ridesbiketowork/bearpics012-1-1.jpg?t=1306205772 in this area east of the frahttp://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/ridesbiketowork/bearpics014.jpg?t=1306205772ser is there a difference in tracks.http://i1092.photobucke%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/ridesbiketowork/bearpics014.jpgt.com/albums/i417/ridesbiketowork/bearpics012.jpg[/IMG]

Almost a bear! Haha! Three and a half legs counts. Nice work! How much have you practiced shooting from a knee? Not an easy shot to make for sure! Congratulations on the bear! I killed a three legged peccary this year!
