Woke up on monday and found out my brother also had it off. I knew he wanted some pepperoni for school this fall so i asked him if he had bought a license yet. He said no so i told him he better go get one cuz we're going hunting this aft. Still a bunch of snow out there so we we're just cruising the roads and glassing any green patches out there. I myself was looking for a 7'+ bear with rifle, or 6'+ with bow, or any color phase bear which isn't to common out here. We had seen a couple small bears, like under 4 foot after a couple hours and were just relaxing and cruising, listening to some quality comedy. We rounded a corner in the road and a flash of brown bailed off the road "BEAR!" and i bailed out of the truck. Ran to where it had run off the road and there she was, a beautiful cinnamon, balancing on a log looking back at us. By then i already had my .30-30s sights on her, approx 40 yards away. I was tempted to pull the trigger as this is what i was looking for this year but i knew i told my brother he had first shot. Rifle still on the bear i told him, "if u want it u better shoot now before i do!" and as the words had left my mouth, his .30-06 went off and the bear bailed off the log and down the hill obviously hit. We took a couple minutes to collect his nerves and then walked to where the bear was standing. We found blood instantly and followed it the the edge of a hill leading down the creek bottom and i looked down and seen it piled up against a log halfway down the hill. Judging by the blood it had rolled down the hill, dead from 2 broke legs and no lungs left. We walked down and made sure it was dead and cleaned it up a bit and snapped some pics. Not a single rub on it,thick and luscious hair, going from light cinnamon to medium chocolate brown on the legs. Not big at all but beau-ti-ful! Between the two of us we manage to heave ho her up the hill and back to the truck. Took the highway home and skinned her out and salted her down and sending her to the tannery later!

Congratulations.
There's a reason there's very few large colour phase bears around. They're too darned pretty to pass up and that one is no exception.
Awesome rug!!

Seems like more colour phase bears up that way. I would assume the same genetics if they were that close.

Congradulations to your brother for getting a nice bear. Now are you going to go and try to shoot a BIGGER bear now? Nothing like a little brother competition.
