Tuesday my dad, our friend and I headed out for Black Bear. We parked the truck and unloaded the quads. Literally 5 minutes later my friend and I stop as we see a nice chocolate blackie about 150 yards on the other side of a pond. He is facing us so we have to wait for him to broadside. I didn't know but my dad had stopped his quad further down the road and had started stalking him so he had a perfect broadside, about 90 degree angle from us. He drops it we gut it and skin it out. Its only 8 oclock by this time so we head out for another one. We drive for another 30km before turning around. Didn't see a single other bear, there or back. Lo and behold, we get back to the pond 400 yards from our truck and there is another bear hanging out near the same pond. After 60 kms round trip our second bear was right there same exact spot. I was able to get within 100 yards for a really nice broadside, one shot kill. It was my first bear and definitely not huge but I am really excited to be able to share that with my dad, one of my main hunting partners. I will post pics when our buddy sends them via email. Mine was full black.

Call me crazy but isn't baiting against the law? If so then shooting a bear going after your gut pile from the previous bear you shot, would be baiting. Hmmmm..... Interesting, Just my opinion though.

OK, you are crazy.
No one said the second bear was on or near the gut pile.

Good hunting guys. A double header is always nice...............in hunting too.

yeah we didn't gut the bear at the pond we brought him back to the truck. then we headed out for the day. At the end of the day we came to the pond which was 4 or 500 yards away from that. I am with you on that one, baiting is not a risk I am going to take.

Its funny judging an animal's size across the water is a hard thing. I thought that they were both huge until I got near them. They are probably 2 to 4 year olds, our friend told us.
Question? Can you keep the claws but not the pad? I thought that the pad was illegal to keep cuz of Chinese medicine but the claws aren't considered part of that right?

Good job on your first bear, and finding a new sweet spot. As Gatehouse just advised me on another thread, detached claws are fine.

nice I am thinking about making a bear claw necklace like Bear Claw has on Jeremiah Johnson.

Just to warn you guys, these bears are nothing special. I am waiting for the pics from my dad, he has them.

Can't get pics to post, tried using the gallery as well. Kept the pictures below 750k and it still wasn't working. Will keep trying.

You just have to copy and paste...... And the reason those two bears were in the same area is because they are siblings that just got kicked out from mom. It can take them a while to get brave and go out on their own.

Why did you delete the other bear pic? Nothing to be ashamed of. Its just like shooting a spike buck.

Good show!
it is just like shooting a spike buck, that is why you get 2 tags!!
i love hunting with my dad, thoes are the memories that last.

Oh ya, Watch it when you say "Judging size over water (The pond) is tough" because some goof who may blame you for baiting may blame you for shooting over water! :)

hey I deleted that one cuz I thought that my picture folder in the gallery was full so I was going to put a pic with my dad's bear.
I don't really care if its small, I had a blast. Thanks for the support. I am still trying to put the rest of the pics on(about 5 more)
but the website is being finicky, something about a fatal error 152...
