Gonna go for a goat hunt this year outside near height of rockies prov. park. I have a pretty good idea of where they are, what i need etc...

what i want to know is, what their hides/coats are like mid to late october, and what is their habitual cycle in the rockies this time of year; is it pre-rut just like deer?

was just under them last year, no snow, but it was cold. too far away too identify any distingushing features.

ur input is appreciated.

cheers,

ps. might be using my .308 on em, but am looking into a 6.5x55 or .270
whats ur opinion on these calibers for goats?

Hides are good.

In terms of the rut, things don't typically start happening to November.

Shot placement is key.

Keep your eyes peeled for the other horny creature.

I shot my billy in October and his coat was awesome. He was definitely king of the mountain and was pushing the smaller billies around, pre rut was starting and yes, shot placement is CRUCIAL.

Amen to that. With all that long hair, they look a lot bigger than the body actually is.
