A friend of mine wants to start hunting again. He has held a bc hunting license in 1982 before the core and hunter#. Just wondering if the Provence still issues hunter # to people who can prove they held a license prior to the hunter safety course?

If he hasn't hunted in 30 years then maybe he should take the CORE training. There's no downside to learning. And maybe get a PAL too.

He would definitely need a PAL, but if he can show his bc hunting license,he should be able to get a hunter#.

I had a hunter number when I came to BC in 1980, I think. So I imagine there is a record of his number. When I came back from Germany in 1991 all I had to do was contact the ministry in Victoria and they sent me a card with the number on it...

He gave me his 1982 licence and ther was no hunter # on it just a single paper licence not a booklet like we get now I will get him to go to the bc office on Monday and see what they can do.

I think the hunter numbers were introduced in 1970.

I know because I was "grandfathered " at 17 and was issued one because if you had a hunting licence from the year prior you didn't have to take the CORE course to get the number.

Your friend would not have had a licence in 1982 without a B.C. hunter number.

If he had a B.C. hunting licence before all he has to do is go to a Service B.C. office and identify himself and they can look it up.

I took the core course around 72 or 73 I was still in school. I don't remember when the hunter # came out though. You said "He has held a bc hunting license in 1982 " I assume you meant he has not held a license since 1982 ? Which means an active license. Like was said making a phone call would be your best bet then you would know for sure, you can't do anything without it anyway, does he have a PAL ?

Not true, he can hunt without having a PAL, but he must be accompanied by the owner of the firearm at all times. Think junior hunters too young to have a PAL .... it's the same scenario.

He could also hunt with a bow, once he got his licence.

My friend just went through the same thing. He was told to contact Victoria and they re-issued his hunting number. He did have to call a few times before they got back to him.

Good luck.

My friend went to the B.C office today and it turns out anyone who has had a hunting license from 1980 on has a hunter #. So they re issued his for $11.00 and he is good to go.

Go to the Govt Agent with his old licence they will search his name etc and tell him if he has one or not.
