rocksteady and I did the same thing last week-end,, my bird was down in the first 10 minutes of the hunt as well, soon as you do a couple of hen clucks the tom's just scream, first one that gets seen gets shot.
sorry forgot to take pictures, it was almost as big as Rockstedys though;)

Nice turk way to get it done. Oh thats my wifes broom. Thing broke down and she had to land there. Was easier to get a new one than getting that one towed.

Can't trade you the area for beer, it's Darryl's private sancutary.....And its already in his WILL to me:)

WTG Rocky and Ddog! Nice lookin bird!

The wife finally decided she would like to turkey hunt, so I've been taken her out a couple times. All we've brought home is ticks though, so her enthusiasm is waning. lol :)

Hey Ddog I know where the broom came from. It is from a Canuck fan after talking sweep, it fell off the wagon along with the owner :) Great looking bird, love to try that sometime.

is that the beard that 1 needs to identify before shooting a turkey? Ive always seen a lot of these buggers while elk hunting in the EK, but I have no idea what to look for to ID the toms.

I us my 12 guage loaded with #4 copper plated 3" Magnums, whereas the sharpshooter Ddog uses his 10-22....

They are a stong and smart bird....box calls seem to work okay, but I am sure you can become proficient in using a slate or diaphram too....

Nope, that big white/pink thing haniging off his face is a waddle....Not really sure, but I think it has something to do with turning on the lady turkeys (virility maybe)...

The "Beard" are a bunch of very coarse hairs (feathers) that stick out from the breast bone on a turkey, any where from barely visible to maybe 10 or more inches long....

If you look at the 2nd picture that Ddog posted for me, you can see the beard coming from the birds chest, heading towads the box call in my thigh pocket....

Actually that thing on his nose is a snood, don't know what it is there for or if it has a purpose other than it increases in size the more he gets excited..

When the tom struts, the snood engorges with blood and extends to hang down over the beak. According to the National Wild Turkey Federation, the snood has no known function.

There is quite a few within a few hours of ya,, and yes turkey hunting is a riot, the best thing is when they decide to have a gobbling fight and come strutting to you unaware of a gun pointed at their head.
