I agree, what kind of bird is that? I'm not a bird hunter and I just moved to BC not too long ago, so I've never seen one like that.

Sitka,
I'm trying the MR out. My buddy doesn't like it. I think it has a lot to do with the fact he's a freakin' giant. The pack seems to fit midgets like me way better. ;) I'm finding it really comfortable. Packs the moose paddles nicely. I put a 100 lbs of meat from the freezer in it and hiked around the yard and like how it carries the weight. Jr has definately has grown into my Eberlestock J105. It fits him well and should last him several seasons before it will need to be retired. I've now converted his Eberlestock gunslinger into my new Cruisers Vest. :)

How much does one of those Moose sheds weigh?
The sheds in these pics are just small paddles. They don't weigh a heck of a lot. Big paddles definately are a different story. Last year I had one day with 5 bigger paddles on my pack. Stepped on the scale with the loaded pack on. Pack weighed 75 lbs.

looks great Steve. Thanks for the post

This is incorrect. The grouse I posted up is actually a mature male blue grouse in strut. The comb in the pic appears orange. Here is another pic where it appears yellow. Spruce (Franklin) have red combs, not orange-yellow combs.

For those wondering, my camera is an Olympus SP590UZ.
Mark,
The wolves were pounding it hard hunting elk this winter. The Big 7 and his other buddies hit the heavy timber and didn't expose themselves much so I wasn't able to get to many pics of them this winter. I do know that the Big 7 survived the winter as my son saw him a couple weeks ago with a good start on his velvet.
835,
Both those pics are of the same bird. Different lighting and different angle gives the change in the colour of the comb. Here are some pics of a male spruce grouse and a couple more blues to compare.

Ya now i see it, Walkin' buff Your pics really show the white as well. More "Angular" then Dana's Blue which is more of a patch of white.
These last pic's really show the differance.....
funny,,, when im shooting them i know what they are!
