Seems my fav lakes may not be iced off by mid may with this weather. Is their anyone on the Loops that can recomend a lake with decent fishing and camping in the area that is low enough that will be clear? Have car topper with motor and would alos like to be close to fsr for bears.

Dang weather.

But as it stands do you think they will be free of ice come the 15th?

if kamloops continues to get 20 degrees and sunny (as we got today) most lakes should be off by mid may. most lakes were off mid april last year and we seem to be about a month behind last year for ice off.

Careful around Roche as I believe it is in a park area but the fishing is second to none in that area, pick a lake on the map and land a 5lb fish it is not quite that easy. As for bears I am not sure as I have not been in the area long. Most lakes around Roche should be unfrozen very shortly

I would suggest Plateau lake, very nice camping spot. If it is still iced Peterhope down the road should be ok. I have seen some bear very close to the campsite as well as many deer and moose.

Roche Lake Provincial Park. Make sure you are outside the PARK borders and off private land before you unload on a bear!

We just got back from camping and everything up on 97c ( Merritt to Kelowna ) is still frozen. Courtney and Corbett have a couple islands starting to show. It was 14 degrees on my truck at 2:30 pm.

Actually if you look at the BC parks website they do allow hunting inside the Park. I was surprised to.

Don't think Plateau will be accessible or clear until the end of the month, but there are a lot of cuts and powerline to hunt, and I've seen a high percentage of brown black bears, a couple right in camp. (one of my favourite lakes to fish in May-June, or October)

Vaseux Lake is ice free, although it's a "little" outside of Kamloops. It's supposedly the top Bass lake in the province, it's also right beside the Vaseux Protection Area and 20 or so kilometers south of the White Lake Grassland Protection Area, for your bear hunting.

My favorite lake has iced off now so seems I will be heading back there. I have fished Vaseux many times and found the Bass fishery to not live up to the hype. Caught mostly perch and sunfish.
