Hunt any dirt road that goes anywhere is probably the best place to go. Or another top place is any farmers field or attached bush. Or any bush that touches the highway or Kettle River. Those are my top three spots.

Hunter from Sydney, someone must have told you about Rock Crick, when I lived in Sardis B.C. in the 60s 70s and 80s all the talk was Rock Creek, Rock Creek all the guys were going to Kettle this Kettle that. I know they got deer. Anyway did you know the Whiting mule buck was shot there, I know you want whites but the mule was 44 1/8th inches wide scored 258 2/8th, left beam 30 5/8th inches a right beam of 29 5/8th inches and a total of 29 points. Whiting sold the head to the province for one hundred and fifty dollars. It has been surpassed only by the Crawford buck it took 60 yrs to beat the B.C. non typ record. Outdoor Life 1999. The Biggest Bucks Of the 20th Century. Try between Boundary cr. and main Kettle River 8:14 for whites.

Here's a few bucks from the 80's and 90's from the area. Has always been pounded pretty hard but there still is the odd good one around.

Jelvis the Rocko Jocko,
You really need to update your reading there bud. The Whiting Buck ranks #11 in the BC Book now. You have heard of the Dewdney buck and the Bannister Buck haven't you? If not, where you've been the last decade. At 339 and 320 they are the best in the world. The Smith buck from Westbridge is the largest recorded buck to come from the Rock Creek area, it is only 38 inches wide and scores 290 6/8 inches. There is also the Bubar buck from Beaverdell that scores 269 7/8.

Stevie, nice pix, beautiful lookin whites, Ya your right that mag was 1999 but I'd like to know the story on the Crawford buck that broke the 60 year record. Those deer sure looked healthy, even the 80s and 90s are behind all of us now. One young man I met a real enthusiastic deer hunter like yourself told me its not like it was back 15 , 20 years ago. I'm thinkin access by roads might have eaten habitat too. Like you said," age is a big factor in trophies", and lots of deer have a hard time hiding. Anyway excellent stuff.

I haven't hunted down that way since the early 90's. I spent most of my childhood exploring that country though. I know things ain't like they used to be. If I was wanting to kill a big whitey now, I doubt I'd be hunting down there where a bizillion other hunters venture. The Koots has some better whiteys with a lot more areas where you can get away from the crowds.
As for muleys, I firmly believe there are still monsters like the Crawford buck and the Whiting buck kicking around this great province. With these mild winters we've been stacking up one on another, the big boys have the ability to grow bigger antlers instead of reparing their winter ravashed bodies. It is my goal to find one of those big *******s before I die. ;)

Great G2's but those crabclawed fronts would have me holding the trigger and grabing the video camera instead. Nice buck no doubt, but you can't kill a true giant by killing nice bucks. Go Big Or Go Home. :)

Passed on this dang nice buck last year. Had him at under 20 yards. Put the rifle down and grabbed the video camera. The side you see in the pics scores 90 inches. He had a weak G3 on his other side. Had his strong side been matched he would have been a 200 inch typical. As it was he scores 184. My buddy killed him 2 days after I passed on him.

Steve, you use deer call or scent pads cause he looks awful curious? I use the Cmeer deer anyway, awsome pics. Not too many hunters could pass him up. Your buddy looks like his dream came true. Thats really cool.

I was burping. During the rut I've found burping really grabs their attention. Learned it from an old Shockey whitetail video. Works like a hot damn. And it's free. ;)

I would agree with hunter1947, Rock Creek is a "zoo" when it comes to the amount of hunters.

i have to disagree...if u go to the christian valley area ya its a zoo...but i know lots of area around there to hunt that there isnt lots of people and i have only ever hunted there once weekend...

I would guess that the reputation, the history of the place, the easy access from different surrounding areas and the chance at both types of deer must cause this area to be popular. Or maybe the fact that theres lots of animals at a Zoo.

Go as late in the season as you can. Check out pics in my gallery :)

Hunted Rock Creek last year for five days, it was stupid because my buddy went up before me and said there was tons of whiteys around, when I went up the first 3 days were terrible and the last two were better, in the 5 days we were there we seen 3 bucks one on the highway and a beauty that was missed.

You will find just as many hunters and little space on Gilpin FSR...Coming from the coast I would hunt the hills before Rock creek ...around Bridesville and just after...and no I don't hunt Gilpin...not enough deer and way too many hunters....But lots of sheep and Elk...

I knew a man who said," I'd rather hunt when other hunters are hunting in my area, they scare the deer into me and when theres no hunters I got to find them." Needless to say, He got deer when he wanted one. He's passed away now. I still remember, stop, listen, get ready, hold still, let em get close, snap >>>>>>>>> POW <<<<<<<<<<
