I am looking for a new scope.
I can't afford a Ziess, Swaro, Leica, etc so in this 250 category what is the best option. If there are others you prefer can you tell me? Or one for 300 that is in a completely different league.

I am going to put this on a 338 wm with Boss. I don't know if the recoil will be a big factor or if the eye relief should be above 3.5" I want a 3x9. I want a BDC or maybe milidot reticle. I heard Nikons are really bright but can't take a lot of abuse? Is Vortex a pretty good brand- they have lifetime guar.

Thanks guys.

We've got a couple nikon buckmasters BDC.
One is on a 30-06. The other on a 338.
Love the scopes, they've been great for us.

We've also got a couple Bushnell 3200 DOA
One is on a 300wm. The other on a 7mm.

Either way you can't go wrong, find the best price and go with it.

Check out the new Redfield Revolution scopes, made by Leupold, same warranty service which is done in Alberta. Fits your price range.

I have a 2-7x33 and it is a good scope. Decent glass, holds zero, and the adjustments when sighting in are 'true', no taking 2 or 3 shots for it to settle.

I think it's the best value for a scope in that $$ range. Even if other brands are on par with quality, it's got them beat with the best scope warranty in the business.

I agree. I've got two now and just ordered two more. Great value for the money. Clarity is very good and the eye relief is excellent. I would recommend the 3-9x40 or 4-12X40 and the accurange reticle for your 338.

^^

I was gonna mention the eye relief but forgot :) It's as good as any Leupold scope I own in that aspect.

I had a bushnell 3200 3x9x40 on my savage 116 in 338 win mag, I sold the gun with the scope. It never lost zero once I bought the scope brand new and in the paper work that came with it said they tested these scopes for 10000 shots with a 375 h&h. It never picked up as much light as the other scopes I had but it was very reliable, unlike my vortex.

There is a Nikon monarch for sale on hbc currently for $165 because its silver best bang for the buck I have seen in a long time. Nikon Monarchs are in my opinion the equivelent of a leupold vx3

I picked that up the other day. I guess he didnt take down the post. That said I am really impressed with the glass. I havent mounted it yet but if it holds up then i may be a nikon convert. I already shoot their DLSRs so i can see why they have no problems with the glass. As for mechanics and abuse only time will tell but the guy i bought it off of said it was perfect he just upgraded to a turret style

I have several Nikons and they are top notch scopes. That was a smoking deal considered buying it myself but I currently have two scopes with no homes so managed to restrain myself. I am consider the monarch to be equal to the vx3 line mayby better congrats on your new scope.

i really like my bushnell 3200's,have 2 of them.
would consider the redfields also, been thinking of putting one on my 338wm,the 4 to 12.
right now i have a burris on it and i really like it,but think a lil more power might be nice.

Thanks guys for all the quick responses. I have had a few Bushnells offered to me on this site but am still looking at these options. Anybody have any experience with the firefly reticles?

The FF reticle is very thick. Not the greatest for precision, but fairly quick to get on target.

A buddy of mine has a new Redfield, they are mostly based off the old Vari-X 11 models and work great and are a very good value at $225 ish

I've got the Bushnell 4200 on a T3 300 Win Mag, great scope for the price, takes a shit kicking and still shoots dead on!

4200s are nice but a little more expensive, right?

Kamloops, the 4200's are excellent scopes, good glass, and well built. The Rainguard can be a hunt saver
if it starts raining heavily. Wholesale Sports has the 4200 in 3-9X40 for $250.

Bushnell elite scopes are decent enough quality, but don't have great eye relief. I would look at alternatives.

you only need big eye relief if you mount your scope improperly (too low) or you have poor shooting form.

I had the 3200 on both my 300 mag and my 416 mag for many years , never had a single problem and recoil was never a issue, so if the 416 wasn't going to shake it apart you don't need to worry .
