I was recently working North of Fort Nelson. One day we headed up Highway 77 towards Fort Liard, NWT. We were about 45 km up the highway when I spotted a small whitetail buck feeding along the side of the road. This got me thinking, how far north does the whitetail deer now reach? The deer I spotted was north of the Fort Nelson river, and probably only 60 km or so from the Northwest Territories border.
I have heard of a fair number of whitetails being located near Tetsa River along the Alaska highway, but this would still be South of the deer I have mentioned.
I am just curious, has anybody seen whitetails even further North? I imagine it is completely possible for them to extend into the southern portion of the Northwest Territories, since the habitat doesn't change all that much from where I seen the little buck up to the border.
