Is it legal to shoot a boar in the company of a sow ? or is that consider a family unit.
Reason Im asking is i read a hunting story about a guy shooting a male grizzly bear in the company of a female bear. This was in the big game hunting magazine, 2004 issue and they were hunting the kotneays , sorry for my poor spelling.

YES. Boars are too poor fathers to be considered family.

It is unlawful...

12. to hunt a grizzly bear or black bear
less than 2 years old or any bear in its
company.

Grizzly bear

13 There is no open season for a grizzly bear less than 2 years old or any grizzly bear accompanying it.
[am. B.C. Reg. 226/98, s. 1.]

Black bear

13.1 There is no open season for a black bear less than 2 years old or any black bear accompanying it.
[en. B.C. Reg. 184/90, s. 5; am. B.C. Reg. 226/98, s. 2.]

I'm not seeing anything in synopsis or in law that talks about "family groups."

I think accompanying means an adult bear is accompanying a 2 year old, thats how i read it .

you see them all the time on hunting shows or dvds, (in bc) shoot boars that are following a sow down a rd or wherever.

Just make sure its a big boar following a big sow. I have seen a big sow following he 2 year old cub. From a distance I thought it was a boar following a sow.

In the same regard one of the biggest bears I have seen was following a sow. The size difference was so big I assumed it was a sow following a 1 year old cub and did not try to get closer as I saw another bear alone in a cut. That one still gives me nightmares that I did not get closer to see it ws a large boar following a sow.
