What ever you call these little buggers, saw a slew of them along the highway near Salmon ARm.....

Probably not a season, but wondering if you could remove some as they were damaging crops?????

Maye I will check the regs....Damned...No luck...

I think they are schedule B animals. Which means they are fair game on private land.

You are right, open if on private land and damaging property....

The ones I saw today looks like they never missed too many meals this winter...

Anyone have a recommended caliber/scope/bullet combo to start with???

I've shot hundreds of them over the years for ranchers up in Williams Lake. All I've ever used is my .22 with a pellet gun target scope on it. Nothing like gopher hunting in the summer sun.

.375 H&H for starters, maybe thats a bit overkill how about .22 with a sh!t ton of bullets from walmart for $10 :D

We have thousands of the ground squirrels at our place.... .22 works just fine......friend told me that a 30-06 with 100 grain lead makes them explode nicely!!!!

shot over 3500 of them with recurve and pellet gun in 3 summers just outside edmonton a few years back. First summer lots were taken with the recurve, sometimes 100 in a day. 2nd summer they got smarter, hard to get a 15 yrd shot, needed the pellet gun. 3rd summer they were running to there holes when the van pulled up to park. Once you kill all the dumb ones the bow stays at home lol. This was on one 150 acre farm too close to town for firearms. Lots of fun !!

Only columbian ground squirrels can be killed as Scedule B animals. All the rest are protected (Yellow Bellied Marmots etc) basically everything bigger then a squirrel.

You can get a permit if the marmots are destroying crops etc.
