Does anyone have an idea why they would have seasons and bag limits on shooting wolves when the populations in 7a are exploding??

AND, what works better for shooting wolves a 338winmag or 30-06 or 243win???

You're lucky you can can shoot them,in Region 8 we have no open season even though there is a rapidly expanding population. On Mar 4th while headed out to hunt spring geese I watched 2 wolves(with attendant ravens) push snow through the field across from the end of my driveway. The Regional biologist has been pushing for a season but his requests have died on the Minister's desk.(Should have noted,I'd use the .243) Gunner

none of the three. Nothing smaller than a .416 rigby works for wolves

Doesn't matter aslong as they are dead. ;)

Why would our wildlife branch be protecting wolves with closed seasons and bag limits?? Are the populations threatened? Is wolf habitat under attack?? What sort of science is being used to back up this fool-hardy decision?????????????????????????

As usual, emotion and politics rule...science is on the back burner. Gunner

why leave a den full of starving, orphaned pups when a bear hunter blasts momma wolf in June while he is bear hunting, just for 'fun'?

In Region 3 they close June 15th,same as bears.Where they are open all year it is because either they're thick and a problem for the ranchers or in cariboo recovery areas where they are dining on the last of the woodland caribou.Either case, they need to be thinned out .Personally I'd rather shoot a wolf with a full winter coat, but pups in a pack will be fed and even suckled sometimes by sub dominant females. They aren't neccesarily going to starve and they sure aren't orphaned. The last big pack we found tracks from contained at least 13 wolves. That's in Region 8 where there aren't enough to justify a season. Gunner

Last season one fellow told me of him watching a pack of 23.......some serious ungulate eating going on with that group. Sure would be the pits getting the drop on them and having to stop at a limit of 3 WTH. :-(
