Has anyone seen any grouse familys this year? Ive seen one family and had 3 babies- I always like to see lots make it through the spring ending up in a good grouse hunting year.

I have seen a couple of families out the mossville area, I haven't seen much grouse action out the North Fraser way though.

We had a very dry spring this year (Fraser Lake), and there are grouse families everywhere. Good to see.:)

I fish and hike around the Skagit Valley abit and I haven't seen to many families, but this spring I went on quite a few snow hikes and I flushed dozens of single birds. This would've been in early March or so...maybe too early to see groups:-)

Ian I've seen no coveys so far. Which makes no sense to me cause all spring it seemed like there was drumming everywhere. We had a really good first 2 weeks of June. No rain, no really cold temps. Should be lots of young birds out there......I hope it's a good year......the cycle should be on the upswing.

I have seen more grouse (animals in general ,bunnies, deer etc) this year then most . The lower mainland seems to have done fairly well so far. ?

I agree. I lost track of all the ones I saw spring bear season. I hope I still see them come Sept.

I have seen 3 families all consisting of well over 8 chicks, as well as nearly 50 I would say with Elkhound this spring bear season. It seems that the grouse clutches survive very well here on the coast as I have never seen a clutch of less than 6.

I was out for a few hours a couple weeks ago, counted about 25 mature birds and probably seven or eight had chicks with them. I only take 4 or 5 every year for a dinner or two, so we don't normally pay any mind to them, other than chasing them off the roads:-) . Appeared to be an average day for chicken sightings to me.

Here in Kelowna we have had a wet spring. When that occurs the grouse hatch seams very poor. To wet for the chicks. But we will see in about 6 weeks when season opens up. Good luck ya'll.

Now that's dedication. I've never actually scouted specifically grouse, just noticed them when in the bush after other critters. I guess you really are the "grouse hunter."

Just got back from 2 weeks of holidays around Mable Lake (North of Lumby). Saw about 12 grouse while 4x4 through the fsr (24km). Spent the last couple days in Merrit Region did not see a single grouse (165km).

I hope this is due to driving to fast.....

How big are the baby grouse at this time, they could be hangin out off the road a bit till sept or october to. I know willow grouse like to be around water but this year I'd like to nail some big blues so I gotta start lookin in the tree branches. They kinda sound like an owl too. Blues apparently act a little different then the other types. I hear blues like semi open south facing slopes, any advice from some grouse guys for big blues come on.

No idea on blues but I just heard that my aunt saw a covey of 7 birds out by their place on the Blackwater. Good to hear! And the chicks should be about 2/3 the size of the hen by now. I think. Can't wait!! One more month!!
