It was october 3rd 2010 we left the house around 430 in the morning grabbed our packs and rifles and threw them in the back seat of the range rover. we were after a ram i nicked named cheater, he was a heavy based really deep curl broomed ram he didnt carry his weight all that well but had a long curl. we first seen him in the summer feeding down behind horshoe lake. then again spotted him 2 days before the opener in sept. and never again till last night.
just before dark we were parked at our favorite look out, looking at some elk up on bull mtn when ronald said he spotted some rams. real low he said like extremely low for this time of year. he pointed them out and i put my glass on the rams. they were bedded 2 were facing away 1 was facing towards us. i threw on my camera adapter and snapped a few pictures. i pulled out my laptop and uploaded the pics and compared them to cheater... sure enough we were looking at the sam ram.
we quickly took note of where the rams where and got the hell out of there. we made plans on what we would do in the morning. we pulled into where we planned to hike from and couldnt believe it, there was a pick up there and i knew whos truck it was .. a local sheep hunter with a bad attitude i was pretty sure he didnt know where cheater was but was probably after one of the 3 sqeaker rams he could easly crank, that hung out on the southern side.
2 hours later we were almost out of the trees and it was starting to get light , we still had some ground to cover but wanted to get to a vantage point and try to locate squeaker. about 45 mins later we found him.. much higher he was pawing in a snowpatch up in the rocks. but a really got spot to make a stalk. we spooked 4 other rams while coming around a out crop of rock. then ran about 40 yards and stood there staring at us 2 half curls a smaller banana ram and im 99% sure the far left ram was legal he wasnt huge maby 31 inch curl 14 and a half inch bases lamp tipped. pretty little ram thats for sure. we stood still as the fed away from us. it was 11am we were 150 yards from squeaker he was even higher then the snow patch now but standing there looking down at somthing to our left. i layed down took the caps off my huskemaw scope made sure the turret was at 150 and pulled the trigger the 100 grain berger vld passed right though the rams vitals
