So, lucky me I received a LEH for a Spring Grizzly in 4-28. I have never had the chance to hunt them and have started lots of research. I have found the Alaska conversation website to be very useful - http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=multimedia.main. If you have hunted the area or can offer me some advice please let me know. I will be leaving May 1st.

Where to look/good areas:
Best time of day:
Stay in one place or venture out?

There is some good grizz hunting to be had at the north end of that unit, but I'm predicting you will have major access issues with snow if you plan your hunt for that time of year. You may want to delay for 3 or 4 weeks, you'll likely have a lot more access by then.

I will be leaving May 1st.

Snowy year in BC. Access may be your biggest problem. I'd be looking at the last week or two of the draw.

Thats right in my backyard, Westfall should be good if you can get in there(slide 30 ft. high blocking the road right now) If you have a quad and a chain saw, bring them.

Can you snowshoe 30km. If the road does not get plowed that may be how far you have to walk just to get into the area.

I could probably do 20-30KM not 40.. I have a ruger .300 win mag I usually shoot the 180 grains will they be sufficient? There is a 220 grain right?

grain is not as important as construction. Pick a bullet designed to penetrate and hold together. Triple Shocks, Accubonds, Partitions, Swift A-Frame......180gr would be lots but 200 wont hurt ya

A 20-30 km hike in for grizzly doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Seriously think about waiting a few weeks before you head in there and let that snow melt off the road.

I'm sure a 180gr bullet will be more than adequate out of a 300 mag, just consider using a quality bullet.

But risk sharing some slides with fellow hunters or worse rolling up to a slide to watch the ravens pick at a carcass.

Snows shoes work well, but that is a long hike on them, and remember if you come out and packing more weight you will be sinking deeper, so get a long wide set, or just get tracks on a atv and still pack snow shoes, good luck.

Right on! That will overlap with the rut a bit more as well. Should be a fun hunt! That's nice country up there.

The slide is nearly verticle on the south side and very wide, better plan on building a snow road to get on top.
