the Wood Stove is big enough to heat a 1200 sq ft HOUSE ! are you planning to add-on 3 bedrooms and living room ?:-?

that toilet seat looks kinda painfull and awkward to use:mrgreen:

looks great! Do you have any venting for the propane stove and the related condensation?

Thanks for the motivation.

Can you still fit a Atv in that back corner?

That looks great! I have similar, plans for mine.
Did you insulate anything?, or just compensate with the HUGE stove haha.

Hunterguy
03-13-2011, 12:27 PM
That was for last year, yeah going to tone it down a bit, you have to be careful though the smaller and the cheaper you go on a stove you won't achieve an all night burn, big bucks this year -27 outside 27 inside, when you leave in the early morning, choke it down and feed it a log for lunch and your good til dinner, put it to bed with a load and its good for the night. Notice under the fridge I also have a forced air furnace, on mild weather fishing trips and early hunts the stove stays home but you have to have that woood heat for drying on the late hunts.

Hunterguy
03-13-2011, 12:33 PM
You will notice that the stove is by a screened window, 2 vents in the ceiling, drilled a small hole in the fender well to put the hose out to the tank, trailer is hardwired for a co and smoke detector, no condensation with the woodstove heat. All what you see either folds up bunks, table etc. The stove slides to the front and in goes three quads, with another in the truck box, trailers is 10,000 gvw.

Yup, those stoves do work very well. I've wanted to do something like that, while still being able to load an ATV into the back and keep it kicking around for hunting/camping.. only problem with me is that I'd probably end up living in it though, thats far more than enough space to keep me happy. Way to go for the heads up Dude, all the camo stays in the truck, the webber outside takes care of the greasey shit, ribs etc. I hear yah but when its deep in Dec. pretty tough to get anyone stand outside at minus 25 to barbi up something good, but I hear what your saying. Most guys worry about that than jump on their gassy old quad, drive to where there going to hunt and?

Sweet digs!! A step up from the wall tent.

Hunterguy
10-29-2011, 09:48 AM
Yeah the lodge had a wall tent for 30 years, no more wind problems, mice running over ya at night, once that trailer door is closed you have no idea what the elements are outside and dont care. Wood stove, have downsized a bit, glass window, a lot lighter. We also have a built in forced air heater just to take the chill off or early fishing trips where we leave the stove at home.

Those axles look to be 3500# each, for 7000# total. You'd need the third axle to achieve 10,000# would you not?
However, that is a pretty impressive set up. I would be interested in total $ outlay to bring the trailer to that state.

BearStump
10-29-2011, 11:17 AM
what do ya figure this thing cost you in total?

Thats a great unit. I tried talking the wife into letting me do one like this but she'd rather spend twice as much money on a trailer that I can't even put the quads in.

Hunterguy
10-29-2011, 11:45 AM
Different axles give you different gvws just because there is only 2 doesnt constitute the gvw. When I ordered the trailer had it totally insulated and went 12 inch centres for the flooring instead of the 24 inch centres. Go to Cummings trailers Aldergrove on the web and it will give you an idea of your cost depending what you want to do with it inside Mine is 20ft long with the extra height.Around seventeen plus my labour but with the dollar base price would be a lot cheaper.

So, do yo have a generator for things like the microwave? If so, how big? and where do you store it?

Do you just leave it outside while running or does it have its own storage area with exhaust port for weather protection/noise reduction?

Great project!

Here’s a trailer set I saw many years ago at the Edmonton hunting show. The side seats each make a bed, a small kitchen and a very small full bathroom at the front end. Two quads easily fit in the middle. I don’t remember the size of the trailer but pretty good concept I think.

Yeah we have 3000 honda genny, trailer has a gen-set storage with outside venting. We usually put the genny off somewhere covered just for the noise, mind you hondas are very quiet, the lodge does offer sat radio, 22 inch flat screen, dvd, micro, coffeemaker, toaster and flouresent lighting. I know that some think were all about comfort and dont get much hunting in, wrong we hunt hard and long hours, its that I believe when you do pound the bush for long hours coming home late and tired that there are some comforts like a good night sleep to make you want to get up early and do it day after day.

I have 20 footer that carry`s a Tracker(quad with a heater) and I built a cooler in the back with removeable walls. I insulated all the walls etc and then used door skin for wall panels because its nice and light. The cooler walls are in two pieces and join together in the middle with weather stripping at all the contact points on the floor and walls. Dropped ten degrees in 20 minutes in August in the driveway so it works fine. I don`t have any pics at the moment but I`ll post some later on. For cabinets I used the nice garage cabinets at Home Depot, they have locks so they stay closed on the logging roads. For bunks we used our army cots this year but next year I`m building drop down bunks and seeing as I make mattresses they will be very comfy. We have carpet on the floor which gets tossed every year(I get it free) so the tootsy`s stay warm in the morning. I am never going to sleep in a tent again, this body is way to beat up and I work to hard for that.

How do you secure the wood stove while travelling?

Hunterguy
04-25-2014, 10:17 AM
I have downsized on the wood stove, home hardware glass front stove, from eight to six inch pipe. i built a plywood bottom with 2by2 edges, and a piece of stainless for the insert. stove and legs fit in it. carpeted the bottom of it so one person can slide it on thesmooth floor up underneath one of the bunks, fits snug. Up grades include sat. radio, flat screen with dvd for hunting porn, toaster, coffee maker, every bunk has its own reading light. Shower is a water tank inside that is 6 inches wide an fits up against the wall under the table. on demand pump feeds a hose out the fender wall to a Cabellas shower stall. water never freezes in minus cold weather. remember that everything has to fold up or to the side to fit the two to three quads. spent 54 days in it last year temps down to minus 30 stove keeps it at a constant 72 inside.

Hunterguy

if you notice in the first two pics with the roof line above the top bunk i ordered it to get the extra 6 inches which is 8 ft. 6 stock is 8. didnt want the top bunk guy banging his head lol. Not the greatest at posting pics.

Just another heads up for cargo trailer builds. Wen finished take the trailer to an ICBC location, show proof that you have sleeping quarters in it and receive an RV plate. Changes all your weight regulations. Lodge got stopped at a truck stop and was put on the scale. Weight of trailer and truck was a combined was a problem. Three quarter ton truck. Got a fine and the inspector told me to get the different plate and all would be good. Happy builds boys.

So what was the total weight of the trailer?

Hunterguy

Approx. 3200. I weighed it with three quads in it weighed 6400, 10,000 pound gvw.

How is that over the limit for a 3 quarter ton?
6400 is well within the limit of my F150, even if the truck itself was loaded up with typical hunting/camping gear.

Always tons of confusion with this. I'm still confused by it depending who I talk to. But flat deck and cargo trailers over 1400kg classify as commercial trailers so they are subject to different rules. I think the combined weight of the truck and trailer combo needs to be within the GVW of the truck.

I don't think it's that confusing. Correct me if i'm wrong.

My F150, 4x4, 3.73 gears, crew cab, short wheel base is:

GVWR: 7200lb (truck + cargo)
GCWR: 15100lb (truck + cargo + trailer)

Last time i weighed my truck with 2 guys in it was 6162lb

7200-6162 = 1038.
So my remaining payload capacity is 1,038lbs

15100 - 6162 = 8938
So my max trailer weight is 8,938lbs

If i loaded my truck with, say my ATV, my truck weight (GVWR) would be: 6162 + 650 = 6,812lbs

So my max trailer weight now would be 15,100 - 6,812 = 8,288lbs

This is the way i understand it.

I think the confusion comes from the numbers not quite matching up. My truck's payload is 1560lbs, as per the manual. But if you subtract the ACTUAL weight of the truck from its GVWR of 7200, you get 1038lbs!! The only way i can see them coming up with that 1560lb figure is if they weigh the truck without anything in it, without driver, empty tank of gas, no accessories, empty glovebox and no floor mats. lol.

Advertised max trailer weight is 9300lb. Again, that is if you have absolutely nothing in the truck itself.

I see that the Cargo builds are becoming more popular. You won’t regret putting some thought and time into a build. The Moose is Loose Lodge is 11 years old and can’t count the amount of clicks that it has on it. Since this post was written there has been a few upgrades to make it even more comfortable both on those rough forest service roads and in camp. Can’t post pics, to difficult but send a PM with any questions and can send some pics. Stay safe, the Lodge.
