I got out on Mar 1 for opening day. Was done in 2 hrs with 4ft long 50lber. Should keep me in fish and chips until the summer when I hit the offshore.

nothing wrong with that one ,nice fish,I'd be happy to take that home any day.My beef is when you fill your one fish limit with one 12 -15 pounder and have to go home instead of keeping fishing for something a little bigger-like that 50 lb fish.I wonder how many ''released'' chickens are going to be tossed over the side after sitting in a fish box when they do get a bigger one?Illegal but don't tell me it won't happen

Thanks! yes I was pretty happy. I have not caught many locally here, usually have better success offshore. I was grateful for any halibut and one is ok for me and my family. I am a recreational sportsfishermen. It is not my livelyhood. No need to be greedy. Bonus that it was a decent one though. Gift from the sea.

I'm an inshore fisherman-go off the west coast in those big rollers and I'm violently seasick-and I'm sure as heck not PAYING for that, halibut or no halibut.I did it once, it wasn't my fault-but if I did it again it would be

Lot's of good eating there d2d:-D! What general area were you fishing? What method and lure?

I'm not going to make it out until at least May:cry:. I have a ton of work to do on the battleship to get her ready for fishing offshore of Ukee.

Thanks for sharing.

That's the buddies boat. I believe it's a Raven.
Yes it's a welded boat. I think it came from the states originally.

Johnnybear the weekend was freakin ugly we managed to get out sat and did well getting halibut up to 40lb before my guests said to pack it in. Almost like a ugly offshore day but in the vic area. Sunday was way to big a water, Managed to get out yesterday with a group from van, the morning started off very rough and wet but by 11am the water layed rite down and the halibut started biting, we got our 4 fish limit quickly when they started, they were 30,30,60,150lbs to end a great day. No go again today huge south east waves.

Here's some pics!

Beauties for sure Blindguy!!

I've got two questions for you if you don't mind answering.
What do you think is the quickest way to kill a hali without shooting it?
Do you fish circle hooks and if so how long do you let them chew/run before you pick up the rod?
I guess that last one is more of a two part question:-D

I harpoon anything over 60ish then cut there gills outside the boat, seems to do the trick.Had the big one in the boat 5mins after i harpooned it,quick cut in the gills game over.

I don't use circle hooks very often but when i do i just leave the rod in the holder till the rod bends down and stays there can take a while sometimes.

my sister pulled in a 150 pounder last June. The rest of us caught a few chickens, but they are by far the best eating! I'll ask her if I can put her picture up!
