Hi all,
I own a 30-06 which is a nice all around firearm. I'm now looking for a firearm with a longer range. I have been doing my research and have narrowed down my search to the 7 mm REM. mag.

I have always been partial to Remmingtons but I would like to look at other brands.

Any recommendations? What's your favorite long distance firearm and why?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate your input.

I like the 7mm's, not much you can't do with a 160gr @ 2950 fps. I like Remington's, Winchesters and Remingtons, but Savage makes great rifles too

Remington in whatever floats your boat. If I was going to get a long distance rig it would be a 300 rum.

I'd go (will go) with a matching Savage 111 Long Range Hunter to compliment the same in my 6.5 x .284

what s your price range? Do you like wood blued or synth/stainless?

I like the m77s cuz of the integral mounts and CRF. I also like the fact that everything on it that is supposed to be steel is. It shoulders really nice and I like the indents for your palm. I could live with a better type of safety though, I wish it had a tang or remington style.

Haven't seen an icon in person but they look interesting.

I would really look at the x bolts if I were in the market now.

My vote would be Remington first and ruger second. You cant go wrong with a 7mm or 300, but i like the 300.

If i recall correctly 30 06 and 7mm have very similar balistic proformance. so if u want to get more reach jump up to a 300 win mag. there are others that get u more distance , but u have to really increase $$$ for ammo with less popular rounds.

7mm essentially hangs with the 300 magnum for trajectory, whether you're comparing 140gr @ 3300 fps vs 165gr in the 300 or 160gr @ 3000 fps vs 180gr @ 3000 fps in the 300

300 would have an edge for elk/moose/bison/grizz but they will not shrug off a properly placed 7mm bullet

I have a 700 BDL DM 7mag. I've played around with a lot of factory guns and it's the best I have found (feel, accuracy, feeding reliablility, mag system). The Custom stuff is a whole different level though.
Just me, everyone likes what they have and will tell you about it, but they like them for a reason.

Since u hava a o6 and thinking of a long ranger I would recomend a 300Magnum with a preferance to the 300Weatherby. Ovius Choice would be a Mark5 as there is nothing like the original.

The 7mm Rem Mag is not a bad caliber but to much of a specialist to be considered an ideal choice for the diversivied abig Game hunting we can enjoy in the Western Provinces Yukon and NWT.

Good Luck

Thank you for all the info. I do like the Remington and the Browning but talking to a few people they have suggested Tikka as a good rifle to go with.

I don't know to much about Tikka's other than they are made in Finland. Does anyone no more about Tikka's? Are they a good rifle?

Thanks
