My girl friend and I got two goats out of this area about three years ago nad loved it so much that we go back every year now. i missed a big billy out of this exact basin two years ago and as luck would have it i made up for it the next year. my cousin Ronnie and I had 4 days to hunt, so we left castle gar wednesday night after work, and headed to the white. the first day was full of surprises. up in the morning and out glassing. We spotted three nice billies we decided to make a play on, it took 3 hours to get to the basin and there was only two goats... where did the third go...? we glassed for a few hours and spotted a MONSTER billy across the canyon. didn't have enough time to make a play so i told Ronnie to keep an eye on him while i walked around the mountain to find the other billy. well i got 200 yards look down a slide and there 150 yards away were TWO mulie bucks. the big guy was a perfect typical 4x4 and i would guess 180 to 185. With him was a buck just as wide heavy and tall but he was missing his G3. i watched for a few minutes, knowing i couldnt shoot (I had shot a buck in region 4 the week prior) so I wave Ronnie over and when he gets there his jaw dropped. i told him ill video while he shoots. Ronnie says to me "I didn't buy a tag"... So needless to say i got good video!!! as the day went on we couldnt find anything worth taking so we hiked down the the valley and got back on the road. we drove downup the valley about 5 km and i spotted two nice billies. i glassed them and one was about a 9 inch and the other was about 10. we had an hour and a half before dark. so being youing and stupid we decided to take a look at them. we ran as fast as we could up the mountain. it was getting dusky and we still had 500 yards to go. we dropped our packs grabbed the flash lights rifle and spotting scope. we had to cross the basin (wide open, no cover) to get to 400 yards. we found a rock i judged him throught the scope that the big one was 9 1/2 to 10 inch. i guesses he was 400 ayrds 9no range finder) and lined up with my 7mm. i squeezed one off and the valley rang. i hit him behind the shoulder PERFECT... he stumbled behind a rock and we lost sight. we hiked up there and we had just enough day light left to see. we got to 50 yards and he stood up, so i gave him one more and he tumble... just a tip to all. dont drop a goat when you are DIRECTLY under them!!! he rolled toward us so i stuck my leg out to stop him. when he hit me it knocked me over and all i could think about was knocking his horns off. ronnie happened to be 10 yards below me and i had slowed him down enough that ronnie dropped his gun (not litteraly) and lunged out to grab him. well at dark we did our congrats and started to gut him. BUT we had NO packs... SO stupid like we are, i gave Ronnie my flash light and my rifle and he helped me put the WHOLE goat on my shoulders... i drapped him acroos the shoulders and packed that billy 500 yards down the mountain whole to get to our packs...!!!! not recommended!!! we got back to camp about midnight and we grabbed the bottle of crown royal and drove down to the lussiar hot springs and celebrated / bathed!!!! it was one of the BEST goat hunts ive been on and i wont give it up till i die. i started hunting goats and fell in love, and now i have got my cousin loveing the goats aswell, we plan on making it an annual event. oh i forgot... on the way down in the dark Ronnie took a NASTY tumble and banged up his scope on his 300WSM said a few fowl words and when the dust settled he started to laugh and says to me, i wouldnt want to be anywhere else!!! what an awsome trip greatr ending and the billy measured 10" on the left and 9 7/8 on the right. i hope to see you all out on the hill.

Awesome story dude. Your hardcore. I strapped a whole gutted mule deer on the back of a trapper nelson when I was young. I made about 12 steps thinking I may just be able to do this when one of the million year old shoulder straps broke. The pack swung sideways and tweaked my back bigtime. I could have used a hot spring after that. Nothing quite like goat huntin though. My goat carreer started out of Castlegar while lookin for mulies.

Arguably the best hunt in BC. Great story and photos. Felt like I was there. Congrats on a beauty! Nice bases and length. No mistaking him for a nanny. What time of year was that? October first week?

Beaut goat, funny dumb $hit we do sometimes. I know one other guy who carried a goat over the shoulders like that. When he threw it up on his shoulders the head swung around pretty good. It had lost one horn in the tumble but the one remaining managed to gouge my bro's eyeball real good, could easily have blinded him!
Congrats on making it out with both eyeballs!
