I was out this past Tuesday when I shot this big goose. It weighed 13.2 lbs on my digital scale. Our 49 lb Duck Toller Beau found it a bit too heavy to pick up. But he did enjoy running over to it and making sure it wouldn't get away! That's as big a one as I can remember shooting here on the Island.

I'd love to see a 15 Lb Canada, I've weighed a pile of geese and the biggest one was 13Lb. 11oz. I know of a challenge in Washington State that will get you a dozen fullbody decoys for an honest 15lb Canada. It's been running for a few years now and as far as I know the decoys are still up for grabs. K

the refuge had a contest put on by Paul Sullivan where if you could shoot a 15lbs goose you could get a dozen of his dropzone decoys. The contest went on for quite a few years until last year when finally a guy shoot a 15lbs goose. the goose was less than 15lbs by the time it got to Paul so they had to weigh in after another week and see what the total lost of weight was and ended up being 15lbs. I even think that the contest started out at 18lbs and went down weight every year cause no one could shoot one that heavy. Your frying nuts if you think that goose is 23lbs.

According to wikkipedia " An exceptionally large male of the race B. c. maxima, the "giant Canada goose" (which rarely exceed 8 kilograms (18 lb)), weighed 10.9 kilograms (24 lb) and had a wingspan of 2.24 metres (7.3 ft). This specimen is the largest wild goose ever recorded of any species."

Big honking goose - pun intended.

It's tail appears to be close or even with the hunters knee and the end of the bill even with his nose, the body is close to same width as the hunters body, no doubt one hell of a big goose, but 23 lbs, maybe. Next goose I shoot I'll have to do some comparisons and see. Biggest one I've shot as 13 lbs and it was also the toughest son of ..... that I've ever tried to eat.

My biggest weighed on a cheapo spring type Fish scale was just a shade over 16lbs. It made the rest of the birds in the pile look like lessers. Not sure how tough he would have been because he met Mr. Sausage Grinder, but I do remember he was awfully hard to skin.

Yeep we only used to shoot greaters, and pass up the smaller geese as we figrued, since we could only shoot 5 each at the mind as well get all the meat we could get...... well we got a lot of meat that way..... a lot of ROCK SOLID meat! :s Now we just shoot everything that has a white cheek, haha.. save the tender ones for the dish and tough ones for the grinder.

Why are we responding to a post that was started in 2011, and depending on where he shot it here on the island if it really was last tuesday then he poached it..... since the areas with the most geese on the island just re-opened yesterday.

I responded cuz LP1 reopened it, he probably isn't killing much if he's only taking 20+ lbers so he must have been bored. Like you said the post is from Mar 4 2011 so his "last" Tues. would be right in the middle of early Goose season.
Just sayin' cuz I'm bored lol

You are correct sir! Lol. Heading out after some beauty sprigs and lards in an untouched feild tomorrow with the 20 gauges. Should be fun

Nice love the 20 for field ducks. I need to get serious about taking a nice bull sprig for the wall but they havent been very plentiful around here yet, the number of lards eases the plow somewhat tho lol
