Sneaky sneaky. Put up your stand in an old fir tree. Hunt at night with a great big light.

Swipe some dirt over your poop when you finish.

With Marc trying to raise funds for the site... I say we should place a " bounty" on ol' Jelvis. I'd donate some buck$ for the first "live" photo of this phantom. :-D

Can you imagine how much money he could bring in if he just showed his face once:-D. Or is he forever to remain a mystery...

I get what you're getting at Jelly. The cougar knows where the candy is and that stealth is the key. Always a good idea to learn from the best. Copy the Cat!

I happen to be a very busy Dude, no time for rhymes or riddles, my every second is money in the bank, but maybe just this once I'll take a minute and try to answer this question that has been brought forth by one of the members here who is held in very high esteem by all hunters, young and old alike! What did I learn from reading this thread you ask? Can I now hunt the new growth forests with the stealth of a Cat?? Well, to put it very politely, No I Can't! I've learned Nothing by reading this Drivel!!! I've wasted my valuable time, I just lost God knows how much money well reading this crap!!! I'm going to Sue for all damages, I want my money back, my day is ruined!!! I need a drink, Dam it! I'm going to the Bar, I'm going to get Puke on the Table drunk, and it's all because of this bloody thread!!! Piss on it! Shut the Shop down, close the doors and lets go get Pissed! Someone might as well stop and pickup Jel on the way to the Bar, sounds like his day's gone for a shit all ready too!!! I think after 15 or 20 Draft beer and a dozen or so Rye and Cokes I'll reread this thread and see if I can make any sense of it then!!! Don't forget to pickup Jel, he's buying!!!

You mean "Check Yes or No" Jelly Bean.......
To your question, I'd say sure, if the opportunity presents itself. However, with a .257 Wby, I rarely feel the need to leap off of limbs and onto the backs of unsuspecting deer...............

I wanna know what you learned from this thread on hunting like a cougar, try to imitate the cougars hunting techniques and be a better hunter.
Soft quiet feet
.. Hunt in mature forest
hunt in rocky mountainous country
hunt in second growth as well
What does the cat do, it looks for movement, hears a slight noise.

How does a cat hunt? How can we hunt like a cougar? That's the question.

if "YOU" wanna hunt like a "cougar jelfis" ????,,,

your gonna havta wear some real thick make-up!

All jellyisms aside this is something I have dwelt on many times.
As a cat hunter I get to see where and how a cat often hunts and I am always amazed. Like Jell said they will have to put down a deer a week give or take and that's on crunchy snow, dried twigs or whatever nature throws at them. No weapons except tooth and claw which means they have to get within striking distance of a deer and make contact at least once a week. How many times have you got within rock throwing distance of a deer on the ground and would have been able to rush him and grapple with him. Not easy but a lion has to do it week in and week out all year long to survive. Have you ever tried to grapple with a deer. I did while trapping mulies for collaring and it took 3 of us to hold her down in a net. That's a deer, think about an elk.
No shit I am in awe of a lions hunting skill and I think there is lots to learn there.
The biggest take away I come away with aside from the obvious "bare feet are quiet" is to lower your profile. I think this is key to a lions success, that and time on the ground.

Try catching a coyote sometime if you think you have good stalking skills.

Would wrapping my truck tires in deer skins be equivalent to hairy feet?
Perhaps rollerblades are the ultimate hunting footwear?

I love to hunt, and I love wild game meat in the freezer, but if you think I'm gonna wear 6" stilettos, get Collagen in my lips, and huge fake boobs, forget it.
I'll live on celery long before that happens!!
