Thanks in advance.

That's like asking what does a human weigh? Depends on the length, width, how much fat etc is left on it, whether its wet etc etc etc etc.

Id guess between 80-140

I'd say that's a good guess. Just be sure to take your time leave all the fat on the bear..or you could easilly be packing an extra 30 lbs.

A good-sized grizz will fill an entire large single compartment pack.

The only one I've ever weighed was 156 pounds. This hide squared 8' 4" and was not wet but had been salted. As I recall the skull and paws were still in as well.

Not sure but be sure to bring a proper pack...doing it this way over nearly a km through the bush is hard on the body...

This is bear is 7 foot squared, fresh but had very little fat left on it, not sure what it weighed but figure it was at least 100 pounds. A proper pack would have made all the difference...

It weighs enough to really hurt when packing it!
X2 on PAW's weight, as I weighed it with him.

My little Black bear this fall was quite heavy.

Sounds like someone maybe got a grizz tag?

Yah, perhaps I should have explained myself. You bet - got a draw and I am stoked.

As I always like to say - create the problem. The figure out the solutions. Obviously never packed out a Grizz before and someone said that it will weigh around 150 lbs and I thought they were crazy.

I guess not.

Tims Booner grizzly in Kwatna bay was 200#s skull, all 4 paws still in and a "reasonably" well done skinning job..as well as can be expected with numerous other 8 footers still roaming the area.. the bear squared 9'6"..

problem was the tidal flat was soft and spongy making each step into the gumbo as much an issue pulling ones feet out of the muck..pretty tough 400 yards on Tim..I actually broke out a sweat in encouraging Tim with "just a bit more...

other grizzlies I have had the opportunity to weigh the head , hide , paws all seemed to be 160 pounds 150 pounds range for 8' mountain bears

the G bear on my wall was 166# pack.. with 6 pounds of that just the claws..:tongue:lol some of the nicest claws I have seen..

another K bay bear went #175 pound pack..but that bear was soaking wet..and that may have added to the toatal weight..8'+ bear

smallest pack on a grizzly was one that was harvested in the Cariboo mts..and they stopped by to say "thanks" for the information etc,, it was still tied to the pack frame  and no salt..so we did weigh it in my garage and it went just over 110 #s..I suggested they open the bear up and we put some salt on it...this was done and the bear was 6 ' some inches and very young with a great hide..

I have seen 1 bear from the bella coola valley harvested and the hide head paws combo was under 70#s..they had harvested a cub..:icon_frow.

I had the privilege to see Justin Otts bear here at our home and that package would have been in the 200# range also..

I took a grizz just under 7' and packed it 3.5 km. I had to get into my pack on the ground, roll over and use my rifle to stand up, I learned this after my first attempt. For 3 hours I struggled immensely, trying to put one foot in front of the other trying not to pass out from sheer exhaustion. I didn't weigh my pack when I got home but it was really, really heavy.

I was by myself and didn't do a very good skinning job, there were other bears in the area and I didn't have a lookout. If you have the time do as good as a job skinning as you can, trim all fat and flesh off the hide. If you have a long pack and time allows and if you are capable, skin the head and paws out, there is alot of extra weight in meat and bones there.

Perpare for a nasty hike by using the best pack you can afford. I'd say a good average for grizz hide weight would be 150lbs. You might get lucky and be under that, might get unlucky and shoot him in the water and be over:mrgreen:. Make sure your pack can handle it and the rest is up to you.
