Mark,
I had a doe draw last year too. Got skunked. I guess I don't have a clue what I'm doing when it comes to muleys. :) :) With a moose in the freezer, didn't think I needed to pull the trigger on a doe. Coming home after the end of a long 3 month season eating my buck tag wasn't much of a big deal. You can't kill the big ones if all you are doing is taking care of the little ones. I personally passed on a bunch of bucks that would make most guys cry. When you are looking for that one in a million 220-230 class buck, 180-190 class dinks just don't cut it. :) :)

Hey! I've been well. Very busy with work, home and family but heck its good for me. Keeps me out of trouble! Have deffinatly been doing SOME scouting. Not all that much but maybe 150km or so of hiking so far this year. Wow that sounds like alot or maybe not that much, concidering the results I've had:redface: Really I've only seen maybe 20 velvet bucks so far this year. Bucks that weren't fast asleep beside the stop sign near my house that is:roll: Must be nice to be a backyard deer instead of trying to make a living in the high alpine. I'll post some pics in my gallery shortly. I'll deffinatly be getting out there alot more once its not 40 degrees out, and gets a little closer to opening.
I guess steveo already left for his sheep hunt then? bcrams also gone hunting?

Jelvis,
Every hard core hunter in Western North America knows who Steve Dana is. Most know him as BCBOY. :)

Jelvis
08-28-2006, 09:42 PM
I saw you on another site in the states i think? I saw you with moose castoffs and somewhere with a bunch of mule deer cast offs and I was trying to recognize the country in the back ground but you would strategically position them so not to show the contour of the mountains in the muddled back ground. With the exception of one that a few fellas recognized when the guy taking the picture took in the peaks behind you,

dana
08-28-2006, 09:47 PM
Jelvis,
It's a simple trick in photography. Most of my pics are staged. If not they are photoshoped. ;)

Jelvis
08-29-2006, 07:55 PM
Whats the biggest typical muley YOU shot and the biggest non typical YOU shot Stevie Dana, and are they as big as the one your buddy shot, I think it was Matt with a nice typ and what was that one at, if you don'y mind and I'm not being to nosey. How wide do you think a mature mule deers ears are on an average bigger buck mule type. No really, honestly If you don't want to say I understand I'm being too nosey no problem Steve, Just the mule bucks and no Bull

dana
08-29-2006, 08:14 PM
Jelvis,
If you do a little research on the boards you can find out most of those answers for yourself as I have posted that info many times. As for muley ears, some say the average is 22 inches but I have seen mature ears at 18 inches all the way up to 25 inches.

dana
08-29-2006, 08:21 PM
Here's my biggest NT. 30 inch outside cheater to cheater. 11x9. Officially scores 215 gross, 203 7/8 net.

dana

I don't have a typical that nets BC Book. Matt has 2 in the last 2 years. So he is kicking my ass in the typical department. :) But I like my bucks a little on the trashy side. ;) Here is my biggest typical. 174 net. If the one G1 hadn't of been broken he would have made BC Book. Oh well, still a nice buck.

Nice one, thanks for the look, I like the unique coloured antlers looks like you got it early season, I bet you had to climb and work to get him. nice picture. Ya I like the look of that one in the canoe, typical one, nice colour, nice symetrical tines, good one Steve.

dana
08-29-2006, 08:38 PM
So Jelvis,
Now it is my turn to ask questions. Are all those bucks you posted pics of as Rocky yours or were they your uncles? Why don't you hunt your uncle's old haunts instead of asking about a billion new areas? The Phantom (or at least his offspring) still lives on Skull. Why aren't you hunting him?

Jelvis
08-29-2006, 09:36 PM
Oh I'm still hunting up there every year and there are lots as you know in that area and higher up, I just like hearing about other areas cause as you know there is alot in this big game filled province of ours, so I get excited, seeing other bucks that hunters get. I know fellas in town who love hunting muley bucks from Clinton to Cache creek, Ashcroft.Tunkwa,Oconner Lake,Swakum,East Gate, Lil Sands, Mcleese Lake Yalokom, Mt Olie,Taweel,Sheridan Lake,Blomley, Tumtum, Tete Jaune Blackpool, Red Lake. Mt Timothy, Thuya and on and on. Whos got the money to go every where so I choose closer to Kammy and up to Darfield. Can't spend all my money on gas so I go early and walk up from before light til dark. To tell you the truth, my heart will always be in the Gorman area and thats pretty well where i always go, so there. I've shot 180+ typ there and 17 point non 27 wide and some other nice ones so far. Like you said You got to work at it and know what you're doing to get lucky.I enjoy hunting with my buddies from over the years and like to see them get a nice one too if they can.But most guys get tired from walking and are a little afraid of getting lost so I just enjoy being out there with my buddies and until all the trees grow up and the bushes from the fire grow bigger which there about right now. It's looking good, reports from my local old timer from louis says biggins lots more than he's seen in 65 years, he can't believe it. Anyway I know some areas within the area so thats where I want to take buddy who can walk a little more than others with me and bang a biggin this 2006 season Ya so Steve thats my story so far and hopefully I will have one to show and tell on hunting BC either mine or one of my buds from the 2006 hunting season good luck guy

The Widest Buck I've seen was up in the Gorman area.........
Didn't have time to count points but he went straight out and straight up....really boxy looking, 30"er for sure...didn't even get a shot off:-(
That's one encounter I'd like to have another chance at

That burn has taken a great area and made it awesome. Even with all the pressure as of late, you still can find areas where the big boys like to hide if you work at it.

I tried but admittedly was in the truck at the time with a smoke and a coffee.........definately wasn't ready for that fella to step out in front of the truck
Didn't even get it in park and he bolted:-(
Next Time..........although that was a few years ago now, I'm sure he's Kitty food by now..... :|
Or on somebody's wall

Jelvis
08-29-2006, 10:25 PM
I don't want to shock you but one fella who has shot a 197 typical already, saw a buck up there that was bigger than the 197, like you said, straight out and straight up massive, he was there and gone. Another guy from the loops who shot a big 5 by 5 weighed on the scale 260 lbs, saw a giant non typical that looked like he had tree branches on his head. I saw the photos of the huge 5 by 5 so I know I could believe Earl, him and his Dad hunted that area for years and consistantly get bucks around 225 lbs field dressed. Don't underestimate the area its thick in some areas and steep thats what muleys like. Right or wrong?

dana

Firebird,
I've got a 10 year old son that will be hunting this year. I don't want to friggin try to explain that pic to him. Get it off this site and grow up dude okay? If you think it's funny, great, go join some porn food site. This is not the place for it. You want to take pokes at me, fine, do it with with some style instead.

Jelvis,
To get the fire burning in ya even more, a forty incher was taken out of that area last fall. Largest buck I ever helped put the tape on from there was a 37 1/2 incher.

Is this the same legendary Dana from the MM forums?????

dana
08-30-2006, 06:27 PM
Seeing some of Firebirds so-called humor in the past (like when he posted that he killed a hooker in PG) I don't think he has good judgement in the crap he posts. If I post up a pic of my son's first buck, how do I know this guy won't post up even worse crap, just because he is pissed that I disagreed with him when he said there are a ton of whitey/muley crosses. Like I said, you want to take a poke at me, at least use some class when you do it.

From what I remember Dana liked poking fun at certian memeber on huntshoot.Sounds like some body can dish it out but cant take it.:-(

dana
08-30-2006, 07:06 PM
I can take it as well as I can dish it out. Like I have said, show some class when you want to take a poke at me. That pic has no class. It is disgusting and several other members agree with me, yet Bartell is too childish to see that he stepped over the line and that it offends people. You want to cut and paste my head onto a deer or what have ya, fly at it, but don't be postin up garbage and think everyone will think it is funny. As long as crap like that is posted on this board I will not be letting my kids look at any of the threads on here. I'm sure there are many other parents that feel the exact way I do.

I have been hanging back, just watching and reading and slowly forming an opinion.

Well it's formed. I have a brother who has a young son (he shoots 3D). They both frequent this site. I also know other people with young ones who frequent this site.

Having stated all of the above I have to say that the photo in question, as well as the accompanying comments are a little bit much for "general consumption.

IMHO what is needed here is something similar to that which is on the American site (AT), and that is a a forum just for "off color" topics and/or conversation. That forum is strictly controlled as to who gets access. There must be "proof of age" before permission is granted. Still - go too far an the offender(s) are banned, not just for a while, but for a substantial time and it is from the whole site.

To the participants all I can suggest is to get over it and move on. Not funny anymore.

I don't moderate this forum so all of this is - as always - Just One Man's Opinion.........

O.S.O.K.
08-30-2006, 09:55 PM
This is just not the place for pics like that. I know it was put up for some laughs, but it ultimately boils down to being inappropriate, and is definitely something (as Dana said) that I would not want my kids seeing and then having to explain to them what they just saw. I realize the context of which it was posted, and yes people do get excited when Dana makes an appearance. In my opinion he is the stand alone best Mulie hunter around, and in turn I have come to this site from HS to keep up with his stories and pictures.

I guess I'm just trying to say that a little forethought before you post anything questionable is most likely a good idea.

On that note, I'd say welcome to Dana as well, but this is my first post, so that would just be kinda awkward....

Fair enough on certain pictures posted.
However I don't agree that this thread should be in the Mainland Britch Columbia Forum. Why isn't this thread in the open chat location, or something similar to HS where it's an open lounge for useless banter like this.

dana or jelvis was wundering if you see many elk in the area you 2 are talking about. my buddy from sqeaum bay phoned me last night ,said he was about 7k from hwy at louis cr. and saw1 good size bull elk.he has lived in area 50 years and has never seen an elk their before. also this spring was bear hunting east of duck range ,seen 2cows 1calf elk 1cow had a coller .never see elk my way but was wundering if you see them lots arond kamloops. thanks

Actually Gord I don't know where Dana hunts, I personally have seen no elk that I can think off over forty years of hunting around Kamloops I saw some at whipsaw just before Princeton on the side of the hwy, saw some at Tete Jaune beside the road. The only one I can personally say was the one the rancher shot nw of kamloops within twenty min drive, he got fined for that , I saw it on the news five years back, other then that no. Some guys say they saw elk within an hour of Kammy but I haven't seen any. no season anyway around Kam that I know about, Probably some roaming from Adams lakes little herd into Sqwam Bay thats a nice area.>>>>>>>>>>> good hunting Gord Keep posting and take some photos bud. Bye for now. 09, 09,06
