Ever got a mallard duck?

I have yet to shoot anything really cool in the duck family. Had a chance to go for paradise ducks in New Zealand but never got around to it.

Figured you'd have shot squaws on the great lakes Lorne! deep water and just squaws is the trick, oh and they don't taste so good either.....

Euro widgeon and Cinnamon are the common attainable left on my coast to coast list, once they're done, may have to add the other coast

We used to get covered up by them at the end of the season on Lake Ontario near Presquile, we'd have contests for who got the longest tail.... Oh and Old squaw jerky, BAD idea!

Yup... we've shot 4 so far on the island. 2 lessers, 1 greater, and 1 ross . They taste soooo good, I wish there were more that would come through the island.

are you sure it was a greater? they are on the atlantic flyway only.

take a look at the hinterland who's who range map:

Well it was pretty darn big to be a lesser (the ones I think found more commonly) and I had classified it as a greater due to its characteristics which were backed up by a Waterfowl ID website.

IDK... it was certainly larger than the two very mature lessers we shot before him.

I have lots of birds to get....Getting my Shotgun this month, start shooting skeet, then start looking for someone to show me the ropes in hunting Waterfowl. Can't wait.

When I started shooting at 10 yrs. old I would shoot the odd diver for my neighbour as he liked making stew out of them. I have only shot a few buffles, 1 common goldeneye, and 1 hooded and 1 common mergie, 1 black big scoter, and 1 lesser bluebill... all in my first year of shooting. Don't ask me how they tasted... but my neighbour sure liked them!! Haven't bagged a diver since I was 10... only puddlers.
