Haven't used it on an elk quarter yet, but the half mulie fit real nice. The nice thing about the load sling is that the sling gives the half/quarter somewhere to sit. You can adjust how high it sits (somewhat) by how tight you cinch the vertical nylon straps. Once it is where you want it the side compression straps cinch it tight to the frame. The sling is flexible enough to wrap around the load. The load was very tight and very secure. Much nicer than the old aluminum shelf to sit meat on, then using miles of cord to cinch it down to the pack. I also found it much easier and more stable than a Kifaru load shelf. I think the Kifaru load shelf would be better if it was more flexible and wrapped around the load more, instead of being a stiff shelf the load basically sits on. Disclaimer: I loaded the pack and set it up, but the young buck who shot the mulie packed it, so I can't comment on comfort of the load other than to say the "packer" was impressed.
