What type of maps do you use for scouting an area. I've been using google earth for 7-54 (hoping to do a sheep hunt in 2012) but feel like there's got to be other sources to look at...what should I use?????? Thanks.
google earth as worked good for me for the last few year. it the easiest that i've found

I use google Earth a lot. I also use regular google maps. Under the Map selection in the top right hand corner of the map you can select "terrain" this gives you contour information and does a good job of showing what the terrain is like.
The local sporting goods store also sells individual fold out back country maps which are quite a good scale and I find those helpful.

1:50,000 scale maps are a must for me. I don't go anywhere without one.
Used in conjunction with Google Earth you can't go wrong.

Where do you get your 1:50,000 scale maps?
I use the following
Goggle earth
Local maps
BC back roads map book
Theres lots of info in all three maps and you just need to do some research.

Use the etopo CDs. Works good and can zoom in/out and focus on certain drainages as well as print an extra or two for hunting buddies.
Google maps, and then I dump the image into ppt where I can add my own information to them. GPS with etopo for almost everything now.

I get mine from Crown Publications in Victoria. I'm sure there will be a source in the LML.
