The family and I looking into doing some overnight backpacking trips into the mountains this summer and I was wondering if anyone has any info on some good youth packs. Im not wanting them to carry much weight but they want packs and would like to carry what they can.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I have a Eberlestock X1 that would make a good kids pack. They advertise it that way and you can get a hipbelt and shoulder harness for kids. They have a few packs that would work well for kids.

MEC is your best bet, most packs are too big and too heavy for little ones and you need to get a correct fit so as not to damage soft, young, growing bones.

Go to MEC's site and check out their kid's section, correct fit for your kids is more important than the politics involved, IMHO.

Didn't we just talk about MEC supporting the anti hunting groups ?????????????

My daughter has the Eberlestock X1 and my son has the Eberlestock gunslinger. Both packs are daypacks for adults but are good youth packs for mulitple day backpack trips. My son has used his for packin out meat several times now too. Carries a good 60 lbs of deboned meat well.

Awesome pics Dana. Looks like your sons hip belt could be lowered a bit, does the pack extend? Rob

Hey Dana, great pics! Was wondering what you use for a tent? A couple smaller ones or one for the family?

Rob,
Those packs were a little big for them when I first bought them. Both the kids have grown like weeds though and fit them really well now. I think my son will actually be graduating to my J105 this fall.

Stone,
I run a Kifaru 6 man tipi with a medium stove. Fits the family really well. With a weight of 11 pounds with stove, it is pretty easy to share the weight between the 4 of us.
