I want to upgrade my tripod this year but I can’t find a Slik 613 carbon fiber tripod either at a store or on online site that carries it or have at least on in stock. If anyone would know a store where I can buy that tripod, I’d appreciate to be informed.

Thanks

I bought mine from BH.
I think they stopped making them but here is a list of retailers who carry SLIK.
Somebody likely has one in stock.
Good choice

make sure you top it off with one of these bad boys

I busted the handle right in half (tucked it behind my back seat and slammed it) and they sent me a new handle (screws in) free of charge.

Thanks for the help guys, I’ll check it out for sure.

The Jim White head appears to be the best head for long backpacking trip and excellent quality, exactly what I plan to buy. After lots of research on “outdoor” head the Jim White is top notch and all the reviews I’ve read put that head as the best backpacking head.

It is very fluid and well built.
IIRC you need a reducer insert to attach the scope to the head as well as one for the tripod to the head.
All camera stores carry them.
If you crank them too tight, they crack (trust me!) so just snug it up and use loctite.
Those ball heads wear/crap out after a short time from what I hear.

Unfortunately Slik discontinued the 613 Carbon Fiber tripod. If anyone wants to sell that tripod, I’d be interested. I guess I’ll have to find an alternative. More research once again.:-D:-D

Thanks guys for the list of distributors. After many phone calls and hours searching on the web, the only Slik 613 CF tripod I found is in England at 400$ plus the shipping. I think I’ll pass on that one.

Look at the Gitzo tripods.

BlacktailStalker, I looked at the Gitzo tripod already. Since I have optic upgrade to do as well, the Gitzo is out of my budget. Last night I spend a fair amount of time researching tripod and I think I’ll go with the Slik Pro 624 carbon fiber.

Roughly they are priced at: +- 230$
Weight: 1.81 pounds
Support weight: 7.05 pounds
Max height: 44.7”
Min height: 14”
Number of leg section: 4, the only spec I don’t like since it might reduce the tripod stability

The Slik 624 is 0.3 pounds heavier than the 613, about the same dimension, support a little heavier load but is a 4 leg section and it seems there’s not a shortage of the 624 on the market right now. I think the 624 and a Jim White head will be a great set up at a total of 2.7 pounds (43oz.). I’m happy with that now for a quality tripod/head set up and time to focus on something else.

Thanks for the help guys.
