I've been looking at the Leupold VX-3 4-14 x 40mm scope without the side parallax on it. Seems pretty good for a light weight scope with high magnification...just wondering if anyone else has this scope and your thoughts on it.

Great scope. Probably some better out there, but not for the money IMO. Go for the 30mm obj. LR version if possible.

I've got several of the 1" scopes with AO, VHR and really like them. My 30mm side focus VHR seems even better. I really like them as you can tell. They are light and compact for a 14x scope, and very adequate for any long range varminting I've done. I do like to have AO or side focus at this magnification, as the lone non-AO scope had alot of parallax and I sold it.

I've got one of the LR 4.5-14X40 and really like it, a 6.5-20X40 LR is on the way for my STW.

I'll also add that I had the B+C reticle in one & absolutely couldnt stand that thing. The stadia lines are way to thick for precise LR shooting & IMO the whole reticle is just too busy. I know a few others that dont like it to much either.

When your hunting in the tight bush how do you set up your scope parallax? at what point do you have to adjust the parallax, beyond a certain yardage or magnification? Can you still make quick shots at close range with out having to adjust the parallax?

At low power set the parallax at 100 yds or less (if in tight cover) and don't worry about it. Parallax adjustment is mainly a target range and long range varmint thing, or close range target issue, with the scope set at high magnification.

I have it with the B&C reticle.....I love it. Well worth the money in my opinion would recommend it. I didn't have the extra $$ they wanted to go up to the 30mm but I'm sure it's definately worth it.
