Just wondering what weight arrows you are using out of your hunting rigs. i'm shooting a z7 at 71lbs 29" draw. Easton fmj's 340's 460 grian total weight. Should i increase my arrow weight for this set up or am i within range.

460 grain arrows are what i shoot out of my 45lb recurve and have had complete pass throughs on moose at only 200 fps

Not arrow weight alone that dictates whether you should change shafts.
Although arrow weight is influenced by shaft spine it also can be affected by fletch and point weight.
Heavier shaft has more down range kinetic, (penetration), energy. The trade off for more weight is less speed, therefore more drop. A Lighter shaft shoots flatter but has less kinetic energy. There is a happy medium between weight and speed. FMJ's are an excellent shaft.. very durable.. though heavy.
If you are looking for speed there are other shafts that have less finished weight in your spine requirements.. I'm guessing you should be in the .310 to .325 spine depending on shaft length and tip weight and the rest of the components factored in.
If you are shooting good and the set up works, don't mess with it.. When you are down to your last 4 and feel like you need a change.. get some pro shop help or do lots of reading.
My set up is a 29 inch DL with 28.5 Carbon express cx400 black with 3 inch duravanes and 100 gr tip. Shot from my APA Boa with an IBO of 328 gets 297 on the chrono. Spine is .319. Finished shaft weight is 387 grs.

Howay - since you're in Jaffray why don't you look up Kevin Evans of Kootenay Archery? He'll set you right and he is one dude that knows his stuff.

FMJ's are a great arrow for hunting - although (as has been said) they are a tad heavier than regular carbon shafts. It depends on whether you want more speed for your setup or are you satisfied with the way your current arrows fly from your setup?

You could conceivably drop down in gpi by using a Gold Tip 7595 shaft. Tip it with a either 125 or 100 grain broadheads and fletch with 2" Blazers, pin nock bushings and pin nocks and you've got an arrow that will zip along AND punch a hole right through whatever you're shooting at.

I'll disregard that last statement seeing as you, unfortunately, shoot a Mathews. I also won't mention the "misses" involved with aforementioned Z7......jokes....hehaw

Check out the new Darkhorse shafts too! www.vantagepoint-outfitters.com You would probably want to fling the STUD's at 400 spine!
