buford .... take information like "its popular" with a grain of salt.

I'd personally go hunt Moodie without any hesitation whatsoever.

I've never been there.
I've heard about it from several people in passing and most I don't even know...
Thought it may be a nice thing to pass along.

blacktail - lol didn't mean to direct it at you. Everyone hears Moodie is popular and thats what I was referencing to!

As with many sheep areas, they see swings in popularity up and down over the years but in general, Moodie country is good to hunt at anytime!!

No worries, thats kinda what I thought but just to clarify I don't want to be one of the guys who tricks people and my post might have come across that way.
I'm no stone expert anyways... year 4 lol!
Yeah the hot spots only stay hot til the next hot spot pops up, doesn't mean its not good anymore and in the time its rested, could have become better than it ever was.

I like it up there. Have seen sheep/goats within 2-3 hrs hike. Horsetrails in that country take you up valleys where you want to go. For being popular, I`ve seen other groups, never an issue, most other groups have spooked rams to us. I think the Flights reduce the amount of people in there, but what else is new. IMO all places that have been consistently producing rams are "popular", but from what I have seen, popular doesn`t normally mean that you are hunting with lots of other hunters. I have taken two different guys up there who though we would have people up every valley, and they were reluctant to go. Ask them now, and they would say different. Don`t mean to be beating a dead horse here, but as all these sheep threads go on this site....Take all you hear/read with a grain of salt!!!! Happy Hunting & Wish I was going back there this year!:-D

Go hunt Moodie Lakes...you won't regret it. There is a healthy population of sheep and really good access. This is a spot I've helped many people over the years with and, yes, there may be other hunters but you can always go find your own little piece of paradise.

that general area has the highest stone sheep population in 7b. it is popular but as others have stated a good spot to find a ram

Dad and I did our first goat hunt last year together both of us where successful thanks to many hours of research, lots of hard work and a couple great pointers from a couple generous hunters on this forum. We are now trying to do a sheep hunt together while dad can still handle one. Dad is turning 60 this year but yet still hikes over 20k a day on multi day hikes on the island. Looking at Moodie lakes and surrounding areas any info would be much appreciated.
To expensive for a scouting trip unforutanetly thanks all

It's a bit of a grunt up. I was in their in 91 for my grad present from my dad. I asked him if he would like to go back for his retirement gift the answer was your going to need to find a hunt that isn't such a slug up. He is in great shape and we still hunt lost of high Country but moody is too much for him. If anyone knows of a good lake closer to the tree line please pm me as I would still like to do one last fly in with him.

Im with you Wos trying to find a good area that will suit both of us in our ability (my father and I) but unfortuantely not having the money to do a scout trip. going to have to come down to a tremendous amount of reaserch and hopefully some help along the way. But thats half the fun the planning of a trip :)
