Nice arsenal.
Indulge.

I sure wish we had much better still water fly fishing on the Island, a 3lb rainbow is something to be excited over, whereas its just a 'shaker' there.
Couldn't imagine.

Steven, nice setup you got there! If I am going to get ready for the spring I better get out and by some flies. I started with 30 last year and now am at 10! Oh well, it was my first year and I had lots of fun!

Hey I'll take that chronie box off you hands and test drive a few for ya!
I sure wish I had the drive to get off my arse and tie up enough flies to be ready for spring.
Might be different if the rivers were frozen here:wink: tough to pass on steelie fishing to tie flies for another time.
Three and a half months and counting for me.
Love those Cariboo trout.

Is that all you got? I have like a thousand. Just kidding. I only got like 30 flies. How much for a sampler pack? Looks like a lot of fish food there.

lol normally that is the case with patterns eh? I always find different patterns for different lakes. Some species hatch in one lake but might be a totally different species that hatches in another lake you fish, hence having all the different patterns. I noticed this fishing rivers especially with stoneflys and mayflys. A guy can never have to many flys. I think I give half my box away each year lmao

Nice flies Steven. One of our fly tying instructors was a chirono nut. He had approximately 3000. Every type in every size and every colour, and at least a dozen of each size and colour. Do you have any in the smaller sizes such as 18 thru 24?

I tie some in 18-22 once in a while, not often i have to use them though but its quite exciting when you hook into a fish with such a small fly.

Nice selection you got there!!Im not quite that prepared.
I like to bring my fly tieing stuff with me when i head upcountry and tie em as i need em at night that way i always have plenty of the hot patterns and can adjust my flies to exact colors, sizes and dont have to worry about running out:-D

Thanks ALL I did learn from the best and never deviate from tradition...even use my own bugs..yes bugs from India lac bugs the bases for shellac..although most prefer laquear not nearly as tough..

Hmmmm throw mary into the pot??anything you want..kitchen cabinets, flytying gear..and end up with a delicious soup also..

I like doing one or 2 projects a year, done one...

Ali I have had folks purchase them and never not once hesitate to pay the resiual owing never one failure, not one complaint..not many can or will use such exotic cuts and wood..I now am trying dovetails on each drawer !!

The pulls, hardware is expensive as is solid wood ..with character..ie I have some FLAME MAPLE the nicest wood I have ever seen,,1 in a million..also the engraving requires computer time...and then I do 10 saatge sanding and first 3 coats of finish..then to a sprayer..

These ARE NOT empty kitchen aid containers but heirlooms that WILL LAST 100 years and generations..

Ali wait till Im in Vancouver in a couple of weeks and HEAVILY sedated and bring Mary to do the "negotiating"..lmao..

I some times wish I could make them for free..but the CFO(she who MUST BE OBEYED) says no....

There are so many designs and styles and each is individually done..first pick a style, then pick some wood selestions..also what kind of Vice does Peter use...no not alcohol..lo fly tying vice....I coud give you an idea on cost..

I did have on elady come in and ask what they cost..she felt about $100.....was pretty surprised and I disapoited she had not done her homework..the customizing of the face wit ANYTHING on te lid makes it special...

hugs and smoochies..

hello, did you not read my post about Peter making me get my fly tying kit out to keep up with the Rupster - meaning my vice not Peter's vice and it is a griffon

and the lady with $100 bid must have been sniffing cheap glue

Both mary and I would be very honoured to come visit you in your hour of need while in a drug induced haze :)

very nice selection of flies steve .Is it possible you do a little zoom on the chronie box :) Your tying benches look very very nice , did you build the roll top aswell?

ALI..I was in a little shop in Kamloops and found Mary a "nurses " outfit, its not much.... but I like it.....my bad..

As far as vices go...theres Mary..OOPS..I have a Regal vice with the bronze pedastal its been exceptional IMO..

Laurence, yes I will do a zoom in on the chronimid box....

yes I built the roll top... it took a year in my spare time..when not fishing ,hunting camping, spending time with Susan...etc etc...

I used rough old birch I had laying around...all drawers dovetailed, all brass and hardware from England via Lee Valley Tools....the design I got from a magazine from a very exclusive mill house..it has a light incorporated ito it, at the back of the dek to is a solid brass ring around a cut out..it alows scrap to be brushed through the hole and into the back of the drawer..Susan merely has to vacume out the drawer..

The threads are in drawers on individual small doweling , the hooks are in seperate watchmakers glass tops recessed into a base in the drawer..

very organized and holds a ton of gear neatly..

The unit is 2 base pedastals raised pannels of course, the main top and then the roll top and drawer system there..

I thought the roll top would be difficult not so bad at all...

I had it professionally finished in a spray booth at a cabinet makers buisness...I have $1500 invested in supplies and costs..not including my labour....

cheers
Steven
