Just picked up my forth 7-08, this one is a Remington Custom Gun shop, thanks Bruno284. So I have - 1 Model 7 (Kids), 1 Winchester Model 70 Compact Classic (Wife's) and 2 for me, a custom Remmy 700 AI. built by bruno284 and know the Custom Shop gun . Now I just need to renew the membership at KTSA and we are good to go. Looking for a Kimber 84 in 7-08 if anybody has one.

Yawwwwwnnnnnnn. :D

Step outside the box! There are too many calibers to spend all your time with just one!!!

Then again I've never shot a 7-08...

KB, I never said this was all I had in the safe, just I have a fancy for the 7-08 right now .

I've got a Remington 750, Remington 700, and Browning A-Bolt lefty all in 30-06. They've all got different strengths, and I only have to buy one type of ammunition. Nothing odd about this at all.

I am with you Twanger. I think I bought three 7-08's last year and couldn't help it.... For me it's gotten so bad that I actually paid my mechanic last month with a near-new Tikka T3 7mm-08 with a nice scope. He's gonna owe me for years!!! Now there is room in the safe for one more. I am thinking an X-bolt this time........:-D

Lots of talk about 7-08 on here lately it seems.
How do you guys see it preform differently from 243 with a 100gr bullet?
What do you think a 7-08 is really capable of?

I'm not really much of a ballistic nut, I'll leave that to TB. All I can tell you is that my .243's shoot really well but generally I only get an average half inch grouping. With little load development I almost always get the 08's shooting 5 shot single ragged holes.

The 7-08 is just a nice shooting , accurate cartridge. It can be put in a light rifle, and will do a person very nicely for targets, silos, deer, moose and elk and sheep and blackies and varmints in most scenarios. A little less recoil than the 308, a little more power than a 308 based 24,25 or 26 caliber. It seems to be a happy medium cartridge, good bullet selection, good rifle selection. It's on the bottom end of the power scale for a 7mm bullet, but will still compete for the most part, with a 30-06 case based 7mm, with less recoil, which makes it attractive to young first gun owners and women who want to shoot.
Most of the people that acquire one will keep it.:)

My son took his youth season deer last fall with his 7-08 He shot a good buck at 256 yds using a 139 grn Inter-bond. It did take two shots to finish the buck, but I'd attribute that to nerves and experience. I know Guntech here on the site took a nice bull at an even greater distance a few years back.

I don't think those shots were doable in all but the most experienced hands with a bullet you suggest.

For all practicality on game the 7mm-08 rem is the ballistic twin of the 7x57 mauser.......which has taken pretty much everything on the planet at one time or another and done so for quite awhile:wink:

I had a 7mm-08 Model 70Classic Featherweight...took some deer and a Moose with it, then sold it off of course, cause that's what I do best.....idiot:neutral:

I love my 7-08. Just need one more in a lefty though. For me it is the right rifle.

I would hunt grizz with a 708. I went on a grizz hunt with my old 284. X-bullets of course.

The 7-08 is a necked down .308 case in which you can load from 100 grain to 175 grain bullets. It's a very flat shooting caliber due to using a 7mm bullet (.284 dia) which have medium to high ballistic coefficients. With todays variety of bullets offered, you can either handload or buy good loads off the shelf.

I like the idea. I would even buy one if I didn't have a .260.
