Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the site, I have enjoyed reading your stories, taking your advice and learning lots while taking my first few steps into duck hunting.

I've had a good season, struggled with some things but learned a lot and have come a ways since I started in October. I can't wait for next season, to put what I've learned to use and to continue to learn.

A special thanks to a few individuals - MichelD, fudge, NitwiT, and Bandit_69.

This weekend was was my last opportunity to get out before the season closes. Saturday I only got out for a few hours and decided to try the Pitt River, found a corked wine bottle by my spread with a message from an 8yr old girl named Lizzie... so that was cool.

Sunday I managed to get out with Bandit_69 and one of his little junior hunters at 4-1/2yrs old she was pretty funny... thinks I have funny fishy lips when I blow my duck calls and thinks the feel of the Shoveler's tongue is really "funny".

For my very last day I had a blast, Bandit got 4 birds before he had to take the little one home for waffles and I ended up limiting out for the first time - 3 mallards, 2 shovelers, 1 gadwall and 2 wigeon. And in saving the best for last my very last bird of the day was a banded drake mallard. Going to call the band in tomorrow and see what I can find out. Guess there was a reason I missed so many birds earlier in the day haha. Pics below...

Thanks again all.

He won't be from Washington DC. Thts written on probably 99% of bands you'll see. Newer ones may have laurel MD instead doesn't mean they are from there, just where the banding head office is. Most likely be from Alaska, bc, or Alberta.

great job on limiting out and on the band. i wish i could have been there when that drake fell from the sky. i didnt know you had fish lips that must have been when i went across the field to look for that bird. she always says what she thinks there is no holding back with her but dont take it personal. i cant wait till next year to hit that field again but like i said i am hittin it wednesday thursday after work and all day friday or until i limit out. we will have to get out during the late goose season which is fast approching. and then its bear time and turkey's in region 8 so we will get out soon again. thanks agin and talk soon

Congrats; I was out on Sunday and managed shooting on only 1 pair, of which, one came home. I'll be trying it again on Wednesday and that'll be it. Spring Goose can't come soon enough.

Okay...
My bird hatched in 2009 or earlier, was banded on May 28 2010 in NR Minto, Minto Flats, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, USA. by Dr. Mark Lindberg of the institute of Arctic Biology, UNIV Alaska.

Pretty cool.

Thanks for the comments guys, and NitwiT... well you may be right about fish lips being a fitting observation. I was practicing in the car today while driving and I did kinda look like I had a fishy bottom lip :)
