Do new hunter or first time leh applicants have a better chance of success, and if so how, i thought it was a drawn at random?

You're not supposed to, but I've seen lots of new guys get them on their first try. My son got an elk on his first attempt, but that was a youth draw. If the system is fair, then no they should not have better odds than anyone else. Guys will have reduced odds due to success the previous year, hoping to give a better chance to the loyal ones that didn't get drawn. That should be the only variation

Youth hunts may have better odds for a good reason. New hunter retention would be a big one. Dangle a carrot out there and they will hopefully be hunting for years contributing to conservation and habitat funds through license purchases for years

So the MOE are just like crack dealers then... give them some easy hits and get em addicted early and its easy money for the next 20 years! :)

I'm not saying that is their motive, but it does make sense, but it could also be the same as the rest, based on numbers of youth putting in for the designated hunts and not having to compete against the general population in the odds game

There is a sticky about LEH on the Mainland Hunting forum. They are all random draws.

Maybe they should be giving better odds to seniors, we not may have that many seasons left.

I think most people who have been hunting for the last 20 years (myself included) have already had a pretty fair crack at game, amongst most other things on this planet. I wouldn't mind something to boost new hunter recruitment, but I doubt LEH is set up for doing that in any way.
