Cool pics, but how does a 3-D shoot work?

Thanks for posting those pics...I've never seen anything like that before and it looks like it could actually be fun and laid-back relaxing. Lol on that #11!

Cool pics, but how does a 3-D shoot work?

1. You buy your ticket $7 and you wait for your group (6 persons max)to be called (your group # is on your ticket).

2. There's a caller/marshal that says "Archers to the line". After every one shot at their target, you regress behind the line wait for "All clear".

3. One person in the group records the points, one picks up the arrows. You switch the next round.

You start at #1 in order all the way to 15 moving from left to right. If your score is good, you record it on the board. However, to win prizes, all you have to do is participate.

Hope that helped.

looks like alot of fun - are there skill levels or age categories? where was this competition held & is it an annual event?

Thanks Stephane for posting the great pictures! I got to meet him this weekend at the setup.

We, the Saggitaruius Archers of Abbotsford, have been hosting this annual event since 1994. It is generally held the 2nd weekend in January. It is located at Agri-Fair Arena on the Abbotsford Fairgrounds. Awards are handed out for Saturday and Sunday. There are age categories. 6 and under is a general category. Then it is broken down into age, Female and Male, and type of equipment. For example there is a Female, age 7-12, longbow and recurve class.

There are 15 adult targets and 15 cub (12 and under) targets. This year a group of our younger archers took it upon themselves to setup the Cub targets and they should be commended for that!

If you live near by, you're welcome to come and watch too. There is a nice spectator area in the bleachers and food as well.
On top of that, there is the flea market adjacent to the shooting building. I think it's $0.75 to get in the flea market.

I'll be there early and at the end of the day. Hope to see you there!

:-D Hey Stephane , Great photos and coverage . Sun will have much more of a crowd .
 For a beginner this event is possibly the best training aid as no lost arrows , help from fellow archers and target distances readly comparible and good course setup .
:wink:A bit harder for newer Tradies as shots are a little longer then usual but efforts made to accomodate .
Cheers

Stephane,

Thank you for all your pics and help. Without guys like you our event would never go as smooth as it did. To all who shot and took part in our shoot, thank you very much for your support! My wife is already thinking of different things she wants to do next year in the Kitchen..lol Also to all our sponsors, Thank you very much (Big Game Archery, Chilliwack Dart & Tackle, Bormans, HardCore Archery, PSE, G and H, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Hub Sports and many many more. If I missed your name forgive me I dont have the official list with me. A big thank you to our setup and tear down crew! You guys rock!

Our next Sagittarious shoot (Chad Davis Memorial) will be held at the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club April 9th-10th. Keep posted for details.

It was my first 3d event. From my point of view:
Awesome!
So good I actually went both days. Second day I went alone. Met lots of great guys as each round you're with 5 new people. Only have to be there for 1-2 hours or spend the whole day there. I shot 4 rounds. I enjoyed some of the insight from other archers so much I bought a recurve 2nd hand off a guy in my group.

Well worth going for a round, it's cheap and gives you experience at animal targets. Lots of knowledgeable guys to answer questions. Will be going to more 3d events. For the off season it's a good day back in hunting mode almost. Met quite a few guys from HBC there. I hadn't shot in 5 months, but still did pretty good. This event is even for beginners.
