See seems to be a real natural at it, we started last week with a toy, she picked it up right a way. Not gun shy in the least as well, her dad is used for ducks. I don't hunt a lot of ducks, due to not knowing any good area(besides cow bay), so I plan to train her for upland hunting, are any of you members of the retriever club? This is my first bird dog so I can use some pointer on how to get the most out of her.

There are lots of members of the Pacific Rim Hunting Retriever Club on here and the Saltchuck Hunting Retriever Club. Both are based in the Cowichan Valley.
The Pacific Rim Club will be hosting a training day on Sunday February 6th if anyone has an interest in coming out and working their dog or seeing what it's all about.
PM me for details if you are interested.

Randy,
Search the Vancouver Island Retriever Club.
They are in Victoria, but there should be some members in your area. Most dog people are very friendly and like showing new owners training tips. They are always looking for bird throwers to help with their training as well.

Wow! great vid.
I just got my lab 4 days ago, he's almost 10 weeks old.
Brought him to the VGC and wasn't bothered with shotguns going off.
Can't wait to start trainnig him.

Met up with Lots'oLabs and the others from the Pacific Rim Hunting and Retriever club this last weekend on one of their training days. Very nice people, very helpful, if your new at training your retriever this is a great club to join and learn from.

Great video...Brings back memories of my two. A freind of mine had his pup running lines at thirteen weeks. He also started training in ruts in the snow. Drive your truck out and back in a simple fan patern, stand at the centre and direct down each path with your hand. Worked like a charm.

Cheers and good luck with the pup.

It was nice to see you come out with your pup.
The Vancouver Island Retriever Club will be at the Duncan Exhibition grounds this Sunday Feb. 13 if anyone is interested in seeing what a field trial looks like.

Check out the BC Retriever website, all the field trial and hunt test clubs are listed. There are several of each in the lower mainland

There is also a new club just starting up that isn't listed on the BC Retreiver News website. It will be having members from both hunt tests and field trials. The group starting it are all enthusiasts and good trainers.
PM me if you want some phone #'s. Who did you sent your pup to for training?

if the new club is with Linda Moran, from kasomar kennels, then i have been in touch, also i am booked in to the workshop.

I have a 8 month old male chocolate lab, he is with Gary Abbott from Nomadic retrievers.

I've heard rumblings about a club looking to form to bring field trialers and hunt testers together also. I think it is going to be lower mainland based....beyond that I have not heard anything and don't know who the driving force is behind this.

Think that is the one Deb is referring too.

Yes, It'll be a club from both sides of the fence. The key players are very enthusiastic. At this point in time they are waiting for CKC approval and feel it will happen shortly. They have already secured some very nice training grounds.
They will be planning a sanctioned event to officially kick things off.
I can assure you that these will be seasoned trainers whose main reason for starting the club is to bring hunt testers and trialers together.

If they get a training group together I can't think of a better bunch to train with (except my own group):-D

A few new pics, the first is after her first swim at swallow field, the next is from our hike on the heart lake loop, she loves the bush.

Well after this I was scared may have turned my bird dog into a bear dog,http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?66588-Lab-pup-bear-down, so we took a trip to swallow field today, she seems to have more drive now, and is using her nose to find the bird more then her eyes.

But she has a real crazy look in her eyes at times, maybe she thinks she going after a bear again!
