Rocksteady's Ice Fishin Follies....

Did not dip a line until January 3, 2011 as had been chasing cats and coyotes...Neighbor invited me to go to opening day on Whiteswan....Temp that day in Cranny was about -10 so said sure....

Next morning -13, excellent.....sort of......by the time we got to the Whiteswan turn off it was - 18....No biggie....HOWEVER, the further we drove up the Swan, the colder it got....:icon_frow:icon_frow

As we rounded the North end of the lake by the cabins it hit a balmy (not) -26 C according to the truck thermometer.....:eek::eek:

I caught 2 that day, both before 09:00, so it was a long day until we left at 4:00....

All 4 of us caught fish though, some real nice chromies, in the 2 to 3 pound range...Biggest was close to 4 lbs....

Was not nearly as many people there as usual, I would say 200, been there before and there was 800 to 1000...Big party...Not so much this year....

Since then I have been fishing Munro for Kokanee...doing fair well, anywhere from 5 to limit (15) in a day, 7 to 12" in size.....Put 30 of them through the smoker yesterday, the rest are in the freezer in a holding pattern til I have enough to do a canner full.......

That ice fishing looks awesome. I gotta put that on my "To Do" list. I've dived under ice but never fished through it.

Butt was warm but the old stache and beard took on a whole lot of moisture from my breath and thats what it looks like...

Went to Munroe yesterday....I only caught one after about 4 hours....

Today I was on the lake just before 10:00, should have been there sooner. The only other guy on the lake when I pulled in already had 9 on the ice...He was there just after 9:00.....

I stuck around til 1:30 or so, but only caught 1....

That lake is so hit and miss it just frustrates the hell out of me....

Sounds like fun, Good way to get out and enjoy the outdoors over the winter blue's and some fresh snacks. I would be nervous as hell driving my truck on the ice, but at -26 for a month I guess it is a non issue. Thanks for posting.

Yep, drove out onto it yesterday and today...as well there was a couple of F-350 crew cab types with quads in back, so ice is plenty thick.....Close to a foot or more in most locations of that lake...

9ish and the one i kept was around the same size as the cutthroat i caught the day before. His was real nice it was around 3lbs
