Today started out with a 7:00 am wake up for my boys. "lets go guys we have 1/2 an hour till we have to leave" neither was moving fast so i let them know, shower, breakfast and out the door! 7:45 was the actual time we left.
By the time we hit the hwy my youngest was already asleep. about an hour into the fsr roads we cut a fresh Tom track, we let the wrecking crew go about 1 min apart (the best go 1st)
about 15-20 mins into the ordeal,we can hear every dog at the tree, now we had to figure out the best way through the cliffs. Our 1st try ended in going back down to the road, after a 30 min sweat trip to where the cliffs were not gonna let us any higher, we ended up finding an old skidder trail and made our way up to the base of the mountain. 2 hours later we chopped our way up and acroos this unforgiving slope to the 1st tree.
A couple pics in and just about to tie off the dogs here comes the cat down the tree, my youngest was at my side and I've never seen my oldest move so bloody fast. ( I had to laugh at the time)
Well the cat ran straight DOWN, I have no idea how all the dogs stayed on that cat, because the cat ran right down the middle of the cliffs and across the road and up the other side of the valley to the base of the other mountains.
Off we go down our trail in because we knew what was to be expected. moving at a pretty decent pace we arrive at the 2nd tree, my oldest son says "Dad lets tie up these dogs and do this before he jumps again because I'm really tired" and we did just that.
One shot in the sweet spot put the Tom dead before he hit the ground, a chew for the hounds and tags cut off to the truck.
I must say it's not a huge tom but he had a good size paw for a 140ish lbs reg 2 cougar. He also has some character battle scares, and a shredded a ear.(tough cat, or some big cats chew toy). I could not be prouder of both of my guys they did it all with not 1 complaint as we chased, down the cougar. I sure do love my Boys and feel lucky as a father!
