Today started out with a 7:00 am wake up for my boys. "lets go guys we have 1/2 an hour till we have to leave" neither was moving fast so i let them know, shower, breakfast and out the door! 7:45 was the actual time we left.
By the time we hit the hwy my youngest was already asleep. about an hour into the fsr roads we cut a fresh Tom track, we let the wrecking crew go about 1 min apart (the best go 1st)
about 15-20 mins into the ordeal,we can hear every dog at the tree, now we had to figure out the best way through the cliffs. Our 1st try ended in going back down to the road, after a 30 min sweat trip to where the cliffs were not gonna let us any higher, we ended up finding an old skidder trail and made our way up to the base of the mountain. 2 hours later we chopped our way up and acroos this unforgiving slope to the 1st tree.
A couple pics in and just about to tie off the dogs here comes the cat down the tree, my youngest was at my side and I've never seen my oldest move so bloody fast. ( I had to laugh at the time)
Well the cat ran straight DOWN, I have no idea how all the dogs stayed on that cat, because the cat ran right down the middle of the cliffs and across the road and up the other side of the valley to the base of the other mountains.
Off we go down our trail in because we knew what was to be expected. moving at a pretty decent pace we arrive at the 2nd tree, my oldest son says "Dad lets tie up these dogs and do this before he jumps again because I'm really tired" and we did just that.
One shot in the sweet spot put the Tom dead before he hit the ground, a chew for the hounds and tags cut off to the truck.
I must say it's not a huge tom but he had a good size paw for a 140ish lbs reg 2 cougar. He also has some character battle scares, and a shredded a ear.(tough cat, or some big cats chew toy). I could not be prouder of both of my guys they did it all with not 1 complaint as we chased, down the cougar. I sure do love my Boys and feel lucky as a father!

Very Nice! Those are the days/moments we father's get to cherish for ever. High five's to the troopers that stuck it out, not easy chasing a cat. Way to go Dad

I think I was in that area yesterday with my son, saw a few footy prints, but obviously having dogs is the way to go. Did you have to track that cougar very far? Walking in that snow was a real PITA!!

Congrats to your buddy.

It has turned really crappy there now so you were in poor conditions Steelco . I was in there sat and it was not the best conditions at all.

With any luck things will turn in the near future but according to the weather network it might not.
Time to go north

Congrats to your buddy.

Distance wasn't too far, straight line, but the way we had to get to the tree took us about 2 hrs. With one ascent not being the right route, wasting about a 1/2hour in a failed atempt the first try up.
(Time frame of the chase went)- letting go on the track just before 10 a.m
got to the 1st tree at about 1p.m the cat jumped within mins, and my son shot the Tom in the 2nd tree @ about 2:30. The snow was a bit of a challenge for us aswell. My 11yr old could stay on top of the snow like a rabbit, he did the best out of all of us Heavy Weights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV1UjrPw2qY

We were sitting in my ground blind over some stinky bait and a game call. Sat there for a few hours but to no avail. But the one thing that got us excited was a HUGE rock slide in the hills to the east. Lasted almost 90 sec and made the ground shake. Was time to split after that happened. Near 40 km in would be a long walk out!!

Man, only if my dad did stuff like that with me.
