Some of you know Burger from lion hunts in the past, some will not get a chance to hunt with him as cougar killed him this morning.

The best dog I have own to date, and would put him up against any top hound.
I almost lost Zoey also but I was able to kick the cat off the dog as the cougar had her picked up by the face.

Doug just in from an Ambulance call and read this..I am truly sorry for your loss...Burger was a fine dog, great athlete and I enjoyed my short time with him...I know you did everything possible and thankfully saved Zoey.

As a fellow dog lover and on behalf of Susan and Eboney I we are sending our thoughts and PRAYERS to you and Julie and the kids...you have a wonderful bond that demonstrates your love for your 4 legged family friends..we can only be thankful that you are safe and Zoey had you there for her...

PLEASE take care at this horrible time of loss, and if there is ANYTHING we can do just ask..

your friends

Susan and Steven Rupp

Sorry to hear about your loss. Its a calculated risk every time you let your dogs loose on a track, and he went doing what he loved. I know that only eases the pain a little though.

RIP Burger.

AWW Crap. Doug, I am very sorry to hear that! I am one of the lucky ones to have hunted with you and Burger, he was EXCELLENT at doing his job. He didn't only have a good nose, but I was so impressed at what a "thinker" that dog was on the track.

My condolences for this loss....

Well this is sad day in Tatlayoko country, sorry to hear.
Hopefully Zoey pulls through and one of the others steps up to fill his spot, obviously not take his spot.

We all say say goodbye every time we let go, as my buddy puts it, "Lets face it, we're not doing any dog a favour by sending him down the tracks of the most efficient killer in the bush."

I am very sorry for the loss of your dog, Burger. I know losing a dog to old age was hard enough on our family, I could not imagine losing a dog to a cougar, but I know their instincts kick in and all their training and they enjoy the tracking and the thrill of the hunt so he went out doing what he loved.

Please take care and update us on how Zoey is doing from the oreal.

Very sorry to hear of a great dog lost.
I hope that Burger has gone on to the great hunting ground.

As a side note this sad loss made me wonder.
Does anyone use a shotgun dog?
Back in the day some of the old Cougar hunters had a dog run with the hounds whose sole job was to take on the cat when cornered to protect the hounds. (Ride shotgun) I know that Airedales were used down south for that purpose.
Would that be practical here?
The loss of any dog is tragic to the owner just wondered if this idea could help prevent some other losses.

Knowing the dangers your dog faced in the line of duty serving you has to make you feel real proud of him. Bet he loved doing what he was doing.
