After quite a few days of hunting I got this nice cow. The snowmobile and skimmer were a great help...

Nice job, some great eats there! I'll be up there on the 22nd. hoping to find a nice pair like that. I see the temps are going to drop again which should help us. K

There is no really exciting story to go with this hunt. My hunting area was within an hour's drive from my home , so mostly I just did day trips. Finally the fuel bills began to really add up, so I stayed at a rancher's house. I had access to 2 parcels of private land, but finally got my elk on crown land. Snow levels were not high, so walking was fairly easy. I spotted a small herd of 6 elk, and the stalk was on. They were feeding along the edge of a small lake and I finally ran out of cover. I was reluctant to take the 300-400 meter shot without a rest, when as luck would have it, the lead cow decided to cross the lake to where I was hiding. When she turned broadside at some 150 meters, I let her have it through the lungs.
I field dressed her and then walked back to get my snowmobile and skimmer, loaded her up, and drove out to my truck. My rancher friend really helped me out when he loaded the entire critter into the back of my truck!

Congrats on a pile of great meals, that should really help out with the Meat bill!!! My son has a Cow Elk Draw also, not sure when he's going up, but I hope he stops by here on his way back to the coast, I'm pretty sure I'd have to cut off a steak or two just to try it out!!!
