Seems to me, fishing the dry fly (which I prefer) has become a thing of the past. Due to the recent (imo) transition to more sub-surface fly fishing with patterns such as these, the poor fish are getting a real s kicking year round. Old buggers with fiberglass rods, like me, just can't keep up anymore. Ha ha! Can't keep the hands warm anymore either.

Those are great looking bugs... are you mix and matching weighted options in all of them or generally using the same weighted recipe and working the retrieve and drags.

Some dragons I posted are bulked up with deer hair so they don't actually sink right to the bottom, or sink very very slow. Other then that I just work the retrieve rate and action depending on the depth and what I'm imitating

I need to start tying again. I haven't tied for about 15 years. The new materials look so much more life like now.

There is alot out there now but I try and keep it as traditional as I can. You can buy plastic heads, premade realistic bug legs etc etc Im not for that kind of stuff. I make my own out of wire or rubber or other materials. You can only go so far before it becomes something that a gear fisher would use.

These patterns here, I kid you not, were deadly Last year. They caught me bulls, rainbows, brook, grayling, whitefish, anything and everything in lakes, creeks and rivers. I was having a hard time on one lake last summer as it was +30 out and the fish were not moving. Threw on the green one and started nailing them. They are a couple of my go-to patterns.
