After seeing the post about hunting diver ducks and noting the lack of pictures, we decided we needed to do a diver hunt ourselves.

The Bluebills and Whistlers eluded us and we found out that getting a Scoter on the water is only halfway to getting it in the boat. But for a bright sunny windless day we had a lot of fun.

Well that's some good motivation. Looks like a very productive day too.
We're heading out early tomorrow to try for round two. Only this time I'll bet there's multiple cameras!!!

How do they taste? I thought only Newfies could eat those things?

Well...we chickened out on just eating them as is, and settled on making scoter ( coot) stew. Tasted great, my nephew hit the nail on the head when he stated it tasted like steak and kidney pie.

We actually dressed up the front of our canoe and used it as a sneak boat. But, really most of our birds were taken because our friends in the other canoe kicked them up and sent them our way. :-D

Looks good John, we've always been scared to eat them divers... but maybe I'll have to try it someday. Good shoot!

That looks like the tasty end to a successful hunt - no matter what you were hunting ;-)

It's always nice to change it up a bit. Not everyone tries this.

Years ago I shot a few at Cow Bay and found that they tasted fine too! Good going!
