So Dad and I have always talked about doing a salmon fishing trip and we have never followed through with it. On Jan 28th at 53 years old my Dad had a massive heart attack, which luckily he survived. You always hear about the things you wish you would have done and I know it seems a bit sappy but this is one of those things for me and thankfully we still have a chance to do. Anyways, I don't know the first thing about salmon fishing, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest an outfit that is reputable (without breaking the bank) and what time of year to go (I think it's good June/July) Any info would be great!!

There's a man on here that goes by the user name IronNoggin, he runs a nice boat out of Port Alberni/Uclulet area, his name is Matt, I'd suggest him to anyone. He'll put you on to some nice fish. Have fun !!!

Agreed.

heres a video from the last time we were out with matt! We had 8 springs, 2 in the 15 range, 4 over 20, and 2 over 30 in the boat in 90 mins. We could have stayed in that spot and smacked 15-35 pound springs every 10 minutes im sure. Then we went and hammered 30-50 lbs halibut the rest of the day. Full of knowledge, likes to have fun and definetly someone I am happy to call 'friend"

I was a guide in Ucluelet for 7 years. Dont cheap out. There are great guys there to take you fishing. When i was doing it you were looking at 800 bucks for a full day for 3-4 guys. Thats 800 devided by 4. Grab a couple extra people that are close to you and go.

Iron noggin seems to know his stuff, although i have never met Matt i would like to.

West Coast Fish is a great outfit.

And Island west had some great guys working there.

http://fishmyster.com/ Is one of the best,,, although some guys here got into it with him re Jet boats :)

And Bill was good http://www.justfishn.com/

Halibut is June July Chinook is August.

No Idea if you ever thought of Ucluelet but it is a great place to go. And i can honestly say if you are even entertaining the idea you should do it. It really isnt that much money if you start to save now. As well you could see Long beach and the Pacific Rim Park.

You will only regret it if you dont!
PM me if you want to ask any questions!

Did i sound ike a promoter?

Thanks for the kind words and recommends Gentz! Truly Appreciated!!

Last season was one of the best I can recall out on the Big Pond. We actually started tagging Tyees in late June, and that roared right along until September! More Big Fish than most of us can recall in many years! Thank the Fish Goddess for those proactive 'Mericans and their productive methods of management! Only wish our "management" team would anti-up something even close!

The projections for next season again look very promising. Once again we can expect a Fantastic fishery for springs and coho. Tough to know at this juncture what the rules for halibut will be, but they are certainly there in great numbers!

Last 3 or 4 years I've worked with Castaway Charters: http://www.castawaycharter.com/CMSMS/index.php
Ran my own rig prior to that, and did a term with the Fishmyster before landing at Castaway. Great bunch of guides over in Ukee, most are extremely knowledgeable, fun to be out with, and will work their butts off to ensure you both have Fun and get into the fish!

VanMan, I'll reply to your pm shortly now. Would be a pleasure to get you and your Pa out there for some Wild West Coast FUN! Likely make it work since your dates appear to be flexible, and if not, I can certainly point you in the direction of some Ladz that are professional to the extreme!

Cheers,
Nog

No problem Vanman!
Matt I'm sure would be a great choice there. And besides that, He's a member! You might get a huntin' spot out of em'

Dont quote me on the prices though! i forgot to mention it was 7 er 8 years ago i was workin' up there.

There is alot of nice places to stay up there for cheap or not. Google Ucluelet for accomadation.

Big thing is, do what you are doing and ask around for recomendations. Dont just wing it and go down to the dock with cash in hand. When i was doing it the good guys were booked right through the season with only a few afternoon trips open.

If you pick Ukee want some other fun things to do let me know.
