As some of you may remember, I hunted in New Zealand this year. The mounts came in just in time for Xmas. Here they are; red stag, fallow deer and himalayan tahr...

Stag looks great but the taxidermist had a hard time with the mane on the tahr. Are you very happy with it? I've only seen one good one with hair standing up on the back.

We went at the end of March. It is Fall there at that time of year and it is just beautiful. Outfitter was South Pacific Safaris (Mike and Deb Wilks) and they and their staff were super!

Where were you Tahr hunting? I just got back from 2 months in NZ.

We were based out of Kaikoura. The hunt took place in the N.Z. Alps , a 3 hour drive West from Kaikoura.

Nice indeed! The Red stag is on my bucket list.I think I have a better chance of getting one of those than try to get an LEH Rosey! Can you give us a wider shot of the wall, looks like more than a few mounts!

Being taken in March this Tahr has basically still its summer coat which has a thinner mane and is hard to make stand up. July/August Tahr have the long full thick manes(wintercoat) that will stand up without much help.
We just mounted a lifesize march tahr at the taxi I work at and its hair is pretty whispy and thin, doesn't look very impressive compared to the late July one we mounted last year(didn't have to mess with the mane much at all, it looked like a lion once it was on the mannikin).
Beauty mounts tho!
